Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. An MBA is a plus
- Proven experience as a Program Manager, leading complex aerospace or aviation development projects from concept to certification and production stages
- Strong understanding of eVTOL aircraft development and certification processes
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide cross-functional teams
- Excellent project management and organizational abilities, with a focus on detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with aviation regulations and certification requirements (FAA, EASA, etc.)
- Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment is preferred
- Passion for aviation and urban air mobility concepts is a significant advantage
What the job involves
- As a Program Manager, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and driving the end-to-end development process, from concept through certification and production
- You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the highest quality standards
- Program Planning and Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive program plans, outlining project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements. Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals and ensure alignment with company vision and objectives
- Team Leadership: Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and subject matter experts. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, provide guidance, set clear expectations, and encourage professional growth and development
- Project Execution: Manage the end-to-end development process, closely monitoring project milestones, deliverables, and critical paths. Identify potential risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies to ensure on-time project completion
- Budget and Resource Management: Oversee program budgets, tracking expenditures, and managing resource allocations. Maintain a cost-conscious approach while ensuring that the team has the necessary resources to execute the projects effectively
- Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate project progress, challenges, and status updates to stakeholders, including executive leadership, investors, and regulatory bodies. Ensure transparency and manage expectations at all levels
- Quality and Safety Assurance: Implement and maintain robust quality assurance processes and safety standards throughout the development lifecycle. Work closely with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with relevant aviation regulations
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop risk management plans to minimize their impact on the projects. Continuously evaluate and adjust strategies to address evolving project requirements and external factors
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance development processes, efficiency, and overall program performance. Analyze lessons learned from completed projects and apply best practices to future endeavors
- Supplier and Vendor Management: Collaborate with external suppliers and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of components and services while maintaining high-quality standards
Our take
Overair was spun out of respected legacy company Karem Aircraft, which has spent decades developing Vertical Take-off & Landing (VTOL) programs for military use.
Co-founded by Abe Karem, who has designed a number of aircraft including the Boeing A160 Hummingbird, Overair leverages Karem’s core technology and patents to build Butterfly, an electrified – and crucially, quiet – aircraft.
The reason volume is so important to Overair is that it’s aiming to make airborne, urban ride-hailing services an everyday thing, and it’s planning on achieving this very soon. As well as developing its own consumer-facing service, the company is also hoping to sell to third-party operators, from airlines to current ride-hailing leaders Uber and Lyft. However, there’s still a lot of work to do before Overair becomes the airborne ride-hailing service it’s aiming to be.
