Role
Who you are
- You’re a great fit for our team if you can balance detail-oriented tasks with long term strategy. Most of all, you must be passionate about what you create and the impact it can have
- Extensive professional experience in cloud infrastructure deployment and systems administration
- Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, or Bash)
- Experience administering Linux or Unix environments
- Proven experience with Docker containerization, including building, deployment, and orchestration
- Experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code provisioning
- Configuration Management tools such as Salt, Ansible, or Puppet
- Demonstrated experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting firewalls and VPN solutions
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting best practices to maintain system reliability
- Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP networking, including subnetting, DHCP, DNS, and routing
- Familiarity with best practices in:
- Cybersecurity
- Micro-services
- SRE (e.g. postmortems, incident management, toil reduction, etc.)
- SOC compliance
Desirable
- PostgreSQL database administration skills, including performance tuning and access control
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools, including Jenkins, and experience with release administration
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, growing startup environment
What the job involves
- The Engineering team is seeking a Staff level DevOps Engineer, who will be effectively contributing to the vision and execution of projects related to Infrastructure, Security, Automation, and Site Reliability
- We aim to follow Agile best practices with a focus on empowering full stack development teams, so that they can own a vertical slice of the product, and are empowered to make decisions and roadmap out a section of the product and business

Our take
The current landscape of 401(k) retirement plans is stagnant in comparison to the standards of financial software innovation. Vestwell offers a digital record-keeping platform that works directly with wealth management firms to help workplaces save money on their employee retirement plans. Vestwell does this by removing the friction points financial advisors and companies have in establishing and maintaining defined contribution and benefit programs.
The startup faces competition from legacy players such as Boston-based Fidelity Investments who currently keep track of almost $2 trillion in assets in the industry. Furthermore, Empower also focuses on advisor-friendly and customized web tools and functionality, presenting further competition to Vestwell.
Despite this, Vestwell is uniquely positioned to disrupt the stagnant 401(k) system, a stance only strengthened by its substantial rounds of funding through the 2020s. This has been invested into expanding platform functionality and servicing for its partners and clients, releasing two new products in September 2022 - Vestwell Flex and a TPA portal. These additions will make Third Party Administration partnerships more efficient for Vestwell customers, streamlining the recordkeeping systems necessary for such actions. Continued product updates like these will help Vestwell keep pace with its substantial competition.
