Who you are

We’re seeking a versatile and highly adaptable engineer to accelerate development of our research initiatives
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in high-ambiguity environments, embraces calculated risks, and wants to push boundaries in education technology
Strong full-stack capabilities, ideally in React, Python, and Django
Proven success in high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments
Experience with rapid prototyping, iterative development, and balancing speed with maintainable code
Ability to execute without extensive guardrails, independently driving technical investigations and build vs. buy decisions
High adaptability and resilience to setbacks, maintaining a positive, problem-solving mindset
Prior experience as a research engineer, founding engineer, or similar role is a strong plus
Excellent communication skills and comfort working on non-scrum, process-light teams
Experience developing AI-based features or working with ML infrastructure is a bonus

What the job involves

Collaborate with the team to rapidly create and pilot innovative subtests, driving efficiency in evaluations
Work on advanced features such as automated error analysis, intelligent scoring mechanisms, and insights from video feeds
Work with psychometricians and data scientists to productionalize computerized adaptive testing and support research projects. Contribute to infrastructure and research code, with opportunities to co-author peer-reviewed publications
Help design and implement robust back-end systems to support MM and other research-driven initiatives

Our take

1 in 4 American students has a learning disability, and while a proper evaluation could be one of the most impactful events in these students' lives, however, only a small percentage receive a diagnosis because of the high costs involved and the lack of access to the appropriate psychologists. Undiagnosed students are more likely to drop out of school, fail to find a job and subsequently suffer from mental health issues.

The current learning disability support system is broken, and Marker Learning is setting out to change this by making critical learning disability evaluations and support more accessible and affordable. The company is leveraging technology developed by experts at John Hopkins to provide evaluations in half the time and at a fraction of the price.

Having already reached a million students through school partnerships, Marker Learning is rapidly growing after raising $15M in 2023. It announced its expansion into multiple new services as well, including tutoring and coaching. The company is backed by some of the most mission-driven venture capital firms in the industry and with their help, it plans to continue scaling its partnerships and expand into new geographies.
