Company mission

To help millions of people improve their financial health, and relate to them in a way their banks never could.

Role

Who you are

  • This role requires a strategic thinker who can also get into the details, with a strong ability to develop content that captures our tone of voice and vibe
  • 6+ years of experience in internal communications or a similar role, ideally in a high-growth fast-paced tech environment
  • Writing that packs a punch: You know how to write stuff people actually want to read—clear, engaging, and always on-brand
  • Project management chops: You can juggle multiple balls without dropping any, even when things get hectic
  • Comfortable with autonomy with a side of collaboration: You’re just as comfortable working solo as you are teaming up with others. Building relationships is your jam. You’ll partner with our CEO, CPO and Chief of Staff regularly. Ideally, you’ll have experience working closely with other key teams to jointly and positively influence the overall employee experience (People Team, Workplace)
  • Experience with internal communications tools and channels: Proficient in using platforms like Slack, video production tools like Loom, and Notion to deliver messages effectively
  • Data-driven mindset: Experience in measuring the effectiveness of internal communications and using insights to drive continuous improvement
  • Adaptable and agile: Ability to pivot quickly and find the best ways to balance shifting priorities in a dynamic environment

What the job involves

  • As our first-ever Internal Communications Manager, you’ll be the mastermind behind the scenes, ensuring our fast-growing team stays informed and inspired
  • This isn’t just any role—it’s your chance to shape how we talk to each other as we scale
  • You’ll work your magic with words, bringing our tone of voice and culture to life across the company
  • You’ll be the go-to for all things communication, whether it’s whipping up a Slack message that makes everyone emoji-react or organising an update in All-Hands that gets people excited
  • We’re big on Slack, but we also love Notion for keeping things documented and organised
  • Plus, you’ll be front and centre for our weekly company All Hands, making sure everyone knows what’s what
  • This role will report directly to our Chief People Officer, with scope to shape your role and potentially build a team in the future as Cleo scales
  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies: Deliver clear, consistent and impactful messaging in the right format, on the right platform and at the right time for employees aligned to the company brand, company values and TOV. Implement internal communications strategy to support a high-performing, global business; continually iterate and adapt to meet the needs of the business and employee feedback. Your focus is to increase employees' understanding and alignment with the overall vision, strategy, and values so they are strong advocates who deliver impactful work
  • Run the show across all channels: Own the messaging across Slack, video, Notion, and company meetings. You’ll make sure our words hit home, no matter where they land
  • Organise and support internal events: Play a key role in preparing content for company all-hands meetings, strategy days, and other critical internal events. Ensure these events are communicated effectively and drive engagement
  • Measure, adapt, repeat: Track how we’re doing with our internal comms and tweak how you operate to keep getting better
  • Partner with leadership: Work closely with the Chief People Officer, CEO, Chief of Staff, and other senior leaders to ensure our communications are aligned with company priorities and goals. Advise and influence decisions made at Exec level to ensure subsequent communications to the business are relevant, impactful, and considered
  • Maintain our culture as we grow: Develop programs that ensure our internal communications not only keep up with Cleo’s growth but also help maintain and strengthen our unique culture

Our take

People are increasingly not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, which have proven slow to react to the needs of younger consumers who expect more from their everyday experiences.

Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers.

Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.

Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
