Role
Who you are
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of data science development experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
- Proven track record of driving technical and scientific excellence and innovation in organizations with 50+ scientists and engineers
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Extensive experience with machine learning and statistical concepts, including advanced topics such as self-supervised learning, foundation models, explainable AI (XAI), multimodal models, AutoML, or survival analysis
- Extensive background in large-scale deep learning models and systems, machine learning and data science design patterns, software architecture, and clean coding
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed machine learning models and systems
- Extensive expertise in multiple programming languages and frameworks
- Deep understanding of cloud technologies (GCP, AWS), containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Desirable
- Contribute to open-source projects and technical publications
- Have experience with frontend engineering and typescript
- Have worked in a regulated environment, e.g. financial services, aerospace or healthcare
- Have knowledge of digital pathology or medical imaging
- Have experience with biomedical data processing and analysis
What the job involves
- As a Principal Data Scientist at Aignostics, you will play a crucial role in shaping the scientific and technical direction and integrity of our data science platform, projects, and products
- You will work hand in hand with our collaborators in academia and industry to push the state of the art for digital pathology
- Your expertise will be instrumental in driving scientific and technical excellence across all data science teams, ensuring we deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that transform complex biomedical data into actionable insights for cancer research and diagnostics
- You will report directly to our VP of Data Science
- Own the technical direction and scientific integrity of our data science platform, models, as well as algorithms
- Advise our CTO and VP of Data Science on the data science vision of Aignostics
- Align our data science strategy with business objectives to provide a competitive advantage
- Resolve technical and scientific conflicts across teams and harmonize models, analyses, and technologies to unlock synergies
- Advise product management on technical and scientific feasibility, cost, and risks of complex product features
- Drive technical and scientific design, planning, and integration of our platform across systems and algorithms
- Provide technical and scientific guidance in data science model, algorithm, and system design reviews for all teams
- Educate senior and mid-level data scientists to bring them up to the next level
- Demonstrate long-term thinking and utmost technical and scientific excellence in your individual contributions
- Lead the technical and scientific strategic planning and execution across the TechOrg's quarterly roadmap
- Champion the drive for the highest standards across data science teams
- Drive yearly operational readiness reviews of our data science models, algorithms, and systems, collaborating with owning teams
- Guide data science teams in maintaining up-to-date, high-quality documentation and code
Our take
There has been a worldwide increase in the numbers and complexity of cancer cases, alongside a predicted global shortage of pathologists. With this, classic manual analysis does not have the capability to support the precision medicine and drug development processes of the future.
Through its precision diagnostics platform, Aignostics turns complex biomedical data into transformative insights. It is able to power target identification (for drug development) and biomarker analyses, as well as support clinical trials with its toolkits.
The company plans to continue expanding its portfolio with new product offerings for biopharmaceutical clients. It is also leveraging its latest funding round to support growth in the US, as well as the development of leading foundation models for pathology in collaboration with Mayo Clinic.
