Role
Who you are
- You are a hands-on, curious, and delivery-focused data engineer who enjoys working with a modern data stack and solving practical problems around ingesting and transforming data
- Possesses deep, demonstrable expertise in architecting, building, and optimising highly scalable and resilient data pipelines
- You have a comprehensive understanding of cloud ecosystems, with proven experience in designing and leading the implementation of sophisticated cloud-native data architectures
- You are not just excited to support, but driven to lead the development and strategy of robust, enterprise-grade data systems within a dynamic, fast-paced scale-up environment
- You exhibit profound knowledge of database and data warehouse internals, with a strong track record in advanced query performance optimization, data modeling, and efficient storage strategies
- You have a clear understanding of database and data warehouse internals, including query performance optimisation and storage layout
- You enjoy collaborating with both technical and non-technical teams, and you take pride in writing clean, maintainable code
Desirable
- Experience working with MLOps tooling or supporting ML workflows
- Familiarity with serverless infrastructure
- Exposure to tools like Terraform and Docker
- Previous experience working in a startup or fast-growth environment
- Worked with large-scale time-series data
What the job involves
- Data and Machine Learning are not just features of our Rosso platform, they ARE the platform and absolutely critical to tem's success. This role is central to ensuring these powerful services have the robust, reliable data they need to perform
- You'll become a key player in our expanding data function, joining our Lead Data Engineer and making significant contributions to our foundational data platform
- Spearhead the ingestion of external data sources (e.g., APIs, SFTP, 3rd party systems) into our AWS-based data environment
- Own and drive the full lifecycle of designing, building, testing, deploying, and optimizing highly scalable and reliable ETL/ELT pipelines, championing modern tools and automation
- Act as a crucial link, collaborating closely with our data science and software engineering teams to power downstream applications, including sophisticated ML model development
- Take ownership of monitoring and maintaining our vital data infrastructure, ensuring unwavering availability, reliability, and peak performance
- Lead initiatives to evolve our data stack, evaluate new technologies, and establish advanced engineering practices, significantly shaping the future of data engineering at tem
- Mentor and guide other data team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and shared learning

Our take
Tem is a next-gen energy transactions company that changes the way renewable energy is bought, sold and powered. Rebalancing the playing field away from "Big Energy", tem creates affordable, traceable and smart energy transaction management tools.
The company is still in its early stages, but it looks set to provide businesses and consumers access to the same financial benefits as Big Energy companies by distributing its own purchased energy to customers. Once they’re signed up, customers are matched with a suitable generator, and the tem platform helps execute contracts, take payments, and manage invoicing.
This is a truly disruptive concept - and could prove to be a successful one. Whilst UK consumers are notoriously hesitant to switch providers, recent soaring energy prices could lure many into giving it a go.
tem is going to get a run for its money, though. A similar platform in the US, Tesseract, is slated for launch around the same time, and with an ex-Revolut founder and handsome funding under its belt, is generating real buzz.
