Role
Who you are
- The right candidate will have the technical aptitude to drive good technology choices through collaboration with the product, engineering, and stakeholders across the company
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or relative experience)
- 5+ Years of relevant experience
- Proficiency with modern web, frontend, backend, and/or cloud applications
- Good understanding of Object Oriented concepts
- Experience building highly scalable, high-throughput systems
- Experience creating APIs and extensible systems
- Experience using Go, Java, Python, Flutter, Node.js in a production setting and open to learning other languages
Desirable
- Experience building microservices in a distributed environment
- Experience with message-based/event-driven architecture with knowledge of asynchronous transactional patterns
- Public cloud experience in a production setting (Azure/GCP)
- Experience in operations, monitoring, and deployment methodologies for distributed systems
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer in our delivery technology team, your primary responsibility will be to build/maintain services and solutions to fulfill the needs of the Delivery Technology which includes Driver Pay and Pricing, Dispatch and Optimization, ETA and Routing, and the Driver App
- You will partner with the engineering leadership to strategize the technical evolution of the projects to meet the future growth of the business
- Success in this role will be measured by the team’s effective delivery of services, making the right design tradeoffs, mentoring other engineers on the team, and rolling up your sleeves to write code following industry practices
- You raise the bar of the engineering standards within the team and more broadly
- Participate in cross-functional projects in an agile environment
- Build, deploy, and maintain your own code
- Support standard development practices including idiomatic syntax, design patterns, and Test driven development
- Implement and Monitor analytics to ensure the correctness of the business process
- Support services in production to maintain reliability and correctness
- Participate in team on-call rotations when necessary
- Participate in code reviews and giving system design feedback
Our take
Gopuff was an early player in the last-mile delivery space, offering consumers access to a wide range of consumer goods (including food and alcohol) with delivery in ~30 minutes through its network of micro fulfillment centers, from which a fleet of drivers pick up and drop off orders.
Gopuff currently operates in over 1,000 cities and is adding more. The company has made several strategic acquisitions to charge its growth – including UKs Fancy and Dija, and US BevMo!. However, the company faces increased competition on all sides, from Getir (who recently acquired Gorillas), Glovo, and Zapp, as well as high operating costs.
The company has added a range of new capabilities to its platform, launching features to eliminate former pain points by including advance order scheduling, gifting, and in-store pickup. After abandoning plans to IPO in mid-2022, it is focusing back on profitability, though the company has faced some scrutiny over its methods and has had to search further afield for funding at a time when venture capital is scarce. Regardless, Gopuff is well set to remain a major player in the market.
