Role
Who you are
- You have a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- 1-2 years of relevant data science experience, previous experience in e-commerce is a plus
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business teams
- Skilled in statistical analysis and have hands-on experience with the standard data science stack (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, Jupyter, matplotlib)
- Familiar with best practices in coding, including the use of Git, code reviews, linting, and testing
- Good coding skills in Python and SQL, with experience in BigQuery and PostgreSQL is a plus
What the job involves
- As our new Data Scientist - Pricing/Revenue Management, you will play a crucial role in transforming data into models that provide actionable insights and driving key decision-making processes
- You will work on diverse projects, from data exploration and cleaning to building sophisticated machine learning models
- Your expertise will help us solve complex business problems and enhance our services
- Work on improving our pricing models & algorithms, as well as develop new tools to optimise our e-commerce revenue
- Conduct data exploration, cleaning, transformation, and visualisation to uncover trends and patterns
- Perform statistical analysis to support business decisions
- Develop machine learning models for classification, clustering, forecasting
- Present data insights efficiently and impactfully to stakeholders
- Write high-quality code, participate in code reviews, and ensure best practices in coding standards
- Utilise tools such as Python, SQL, and shell scripts for data processing and analysis
- Work with standard data science libraries and frameworks
- Implement solutions on cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud
- Productise models using REST APIs and Docker
Our take
Buying refurbished electronics can be a fantastic way to give a device a second life whilst saving a bit of cash, but many people are skeptical of doing so. Such items are often sold through illegitimate channels and there is no guarantee that the device will work for long, resulting in people avoiding refurbished goods.
Refurbed provides a refurbished electronics marketplace which is challenging this. They allow users to browse and purchase refurbished devices that come with a minimum of 12 months warranty.
The platform operates based on a monthly subscription fee, and whilst this will present a challenge when alternative marketplaces are free to use, the company has recognised that consumers are happy to pay for quality and warranty. Through its marketplace, the company aims to increase the prevalence of refurbished device purchases, helping to reduce waste and carbon footprints and help consumers save money in the process. 2023 funding is being used to expand the product offerings on Refurbed's circular economy platform.
