Role
Who you are
- 7+ years as a PM, with recent experience working on a data or platform product
- Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and technologies
- Experience in understanding the data, legal, and technical nuances of supporting complex products
- Exposure to machine learning / AI to solve complex data challenges, such as transformation, deduplication, and enrichment
- Exposure to working in the identity space
- Attention to detail is a must. You have an instinct for good platform design
- An ability to manage project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way
- Ability to be fly-high and fly-low in a high-performance environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
What the job involves
- In this role as a Staff Product Manager, Data Platform, you will be responsible for building the people data platform that powers our products
- As a Staff Product Manager on this team, you will work closely with engineering and other cross-functional partners to define and execute the product strategy for our data platform
- You will solve complex data challenges such as transformation, deduplication, enrichment, and matching data to a person's identity
- You will play a critical role in ensuring that our platform is scalable, reliable, and secure, enabling Checkr to deliver innovative solutions to our customers
- The projects you’ll be working on are high impact and scale: you’ll be advancing our architecture and systems to lead Checkr into the next generation of product offerings
- The decisions you make will impact millions of people every year, and help businesses make fast, informed, and safe decisions
- Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to define the platform product vision and strategy
- Conduct research and gather feedback from stakeholders to inform platform product decisions
- Develop and prioritize the platform product roadmap, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs
- Work closely with engineering, design, and data science teams to deliver high-quality platform features and improvements on time
- Define and analyze key metrics to measure platform product success and drive continuous improvement
- Communicate platform product updates and insights to stakeholders across the organization
- Lead platform product launches and ensure successful adoption by internal teams and customers
Our take
Checkr addresses the unpleasant and time consuming process of background checks so that companies using on-demand employees can make safer, more informed hiring decisions in less time. Background checks are a critical part of the hiring process, and CEO Daniel Yannisse noticed that they were painfully slow, resulting in loss of work for candidates and productivity downturns for employers.
Before Checkr entered the market in 2014 with its innovative AI technology and a solid $50m in venture capital funding, companies were waiting upwards of two weeks for their checks. Checkr substantially reduces this time frame and has grown to receive a $5 billion valuation.
Checkr has accelerated growth by making several highly advantageous acquisitions of competitor companies GoodHire and Inflection. As the world of work embraces diversity and inclusion, the company announced an end-to-end service for candidates wishing to expunge their criminal records, furthering the company’s ‘fair chance’ mission and clearing 1000s of candidates for free since 2021. New products launched at the end of 2023 include Checkr Pay (providing access to payment right after a shift) and Checkr Onboard (unified onboarding processes), exemplifying how Checkr is keeping pace with a rapidly changing, flexible, and mobile-first workforce.
