Who you are
- A track record of approximately 7+ years building and delivering production quality web frontend products
- Excellent communication skills — clear written and oral communication is important to our ability to operate as a remote team
- Demonstrated frontend engineering fundamentals — we don’t require knowledge of specific languages or technologies; instead we value transferable experience writing code, system design and scaling existing products

What the job involves
- Our team is building a modern platform for transactions, offering a wide range of services such as brokerage and title
- What you should expect as a frontend software engineer working on our Open Exchange team — maximum agency, tight feedback loops with customers, and no shortage of product challenges that directly translate to business value!
- You will have the opportunity to design, build and ship complex workflow management systems and tools that enable the Enterprise operations team to execute at a scale that would otherwise not be possible. Our products are built with Python, Typescript, and React
- Contributing to all phases of product development including ideation, prototyping, and implementation
- Building frontend products and tools from scratch, as well as evolving existing products
- Designing the next iteration of our Frontend architecture to scale across multiple engineering teams
- Applying your technical expertise to guide the team in making intelligent and pragmatic design decisions
- Partnering with product managers, designers, and operators to identify and solve customer pain points
- Hiring and mentoring other engineers on the Enterprise team and across Opendoor
Our take
Opendoor makes selling homes easy and stress-free by cutting out the prolonged processing time usually involved with a sale. Sellers can offload a house quickly and easily to the company for cash and a 6-9% fee. Currently operating in a growing number of markets nationwide, Opendoor has chimed well with millennials who gel quickly with online businesses that offer solutions to problems they encounter.
This buying and selling model doesn't come without risk. The longer Opendoor keeps a property, the lower its profit margin. However, Opendoor's performance has been anything but disappointing; it went public in 2021, with its pre-SPAC merger presentation calling for $3.5 billion in revenue. Its actual revenue trounced it, coming in at $8 billion - more than double its estimate.
Opendoor's largest competitor, Zillow, dropped out of the space in late 2021 because it struggled to price the homes it acquired accurately. Opendoor's closest remaining competitor is Offerpad, which does just a fraction of the transaction volume that Opendoor does. With strong earnings coming out of 2024, OpenDoor is looking at transforming its operations in 2026, with new management, a volume-driven strategy and an acquisition spree expected. If Opendoor can continue to ride on its long-term success, it will have an enormous lead on existing and future competitors, positioning it to securely become the overwhelming market leader.
