Who you are
- Strong desire to learn and collaborate with the team
- Strong abstraction and design skills
- Strong understanding of data modeling and relational databases
- Proficiency with server side languages such as C# and Python
- Experience with front end languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript
- Familiarity with databases such as SQL Server, Postgres, and MongoDB
- Ability to work with remote coworkers in other time zones
Desirable
- Experience with AWS hosting environments and DevOps
- Experience with big data streaming platforms such as AWS Kinesis or Apache Kafka
- Knowledge of front end frameworks such as Angular or React
- Experience using Docker and/or Kubernetes to build containerized applications
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
- Experience working with Customer Success to troubleshoot and correct customer issues
What the job involves
- Tive is looking for an ambitious Software Engineer Co-op that enjoys working on different aspects of software development and revels in the challenge of tackling a wide array of tasks and projects
- Our ideal candidate is driven with great attention to detail and has the ability to work comfortably up and down the software stack
- As part of your role you will help build a large scale data processing and analytics system that provides our customers with monitoring, analysis and predictions for shipments in supply chain management
- Collaborate with software engineers, product owners, and QA testers as part of an agile scrum team to design, develop, and implement new features
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code under the guidance of senior engineers
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives to gain hands-on experience with agile development practices
- Assist with debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving software defects in a timely manner
- Contribute to the creation and execution of unit tests and integration tests to ensure software quality
- Learn and apply industry best practices in software engineering, including version control (e.g., Git), code review processes, and continuous integration
- Support documentation efforts for new features, technical designs, and implementation details
- The term for this co-op will be from roughly January to June, although there is flexibility for both start and end dates
- This is a full time position
- Must be available to work on-site at our Charlestown office at least 3 days per week (with preference for 5 days per week in-office)
Our take
Traditionally, shipment tracking has been complicated, unreliable and expensive. Tive’s platform allows businesses to constantly track and update their supply chain to enable a dynamic and flexible approach to international commerce.
Tive’s system is based around sensors that accompany shipments, allowing real-time product tracking with data uploaded to the cloud. This system allows clients access to location, shipment integrity and climate status, allowing businesses to better understand how their products are shipped.
Tive serves customers across the shipping industry, a huge market that is still on the rise. This grants plenty of scope for further expansion, with the company already having clients ranging from consumer packaged goods, logistics, produce, and retail, including Alpine Fresh, Fastly, and Aviagen.
