Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a highly skilled individual who takes pride in bringing high-quality code quickly to market, enjoys learning and applying new technologies, provide mentoring to other engineer, and thrives in a dynamic engineering-oriented work environment
- BS in Computer Science or related field
- 7+ years of technical experience as software developer, or related role
- Extensive experience in development on cloud-based infrastructure like AWS
- Extensive experience developing in at least one of the programming languages: Python, Java or Go
- Hands-on experience in implementing microservices, RESTful APIs, and event driven architectures
- Extensive experience with mission critical, 24x7, Tier-1 services
- Extensive experience with high throughput, multi-threaded systems
- Extensive experience implementing and consuming large-scale web services
- Mastery of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Product development experience in consumer-focused companies
- Excellent Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis
- Ability to work on a diverse team
Desirable
- Experience with video streaming, codecs, video delivery and broadcast workflows
- Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or equivalent
What the job involves
- You will work with different encoding solutions and develop diverse solutions to interact and manage these systems, integrating them into our workflows using the latest technologies
- You have acquired subject-matter expertise over one or more production software systems and demonstrated a pattern of shipping high quality feature changes in that or those system(s)
- You solve business problems with simple and straightforward solutions, applying appropriate technologies and software engineering best practices. You can lead the design and development of the most complex enhancements involving yourself and other engineers
- You have built multiple stable, scalable feature changes that have been successfully shipped to customers in production
- Your work and your approach to work are exemplary: you drive best practices and set standards for your team. You are a role model to other teams. Your software contributions in production are the model for highly available, low latency, and efficient software. Your documentation in code, on technical designs, and operations provide clarity to any engineer interacting with your software or its code
- You are a collaborative leader that makes other engineers and team members around you more productive, by sharing your knowledge, and helping to tie-break key technical decisions. You provide mentoring to other engineers
- You are an effective communicator as exemplified by your technical documentation, and your interactions with stakeholders and adjacent teams. You can effectively represent the technical decisions from your team to senior stakeholders

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is an entertainment company formed from the 2022 merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. It is a leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content, with Warner Bros alone boasting a huge library – more than 100,000 hours of programming – before the companies were joined. WBD’s portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Discovery+, HBO Max, and franchises like “Batman” and “Harry Potter”.
Both of the company’s previous businesses have operated throughout the digitisation of the media space. David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, headed Discovery during its expansion into digital media, to make it a “content company” over a “cable company”. The recent focus for Warner Bros has been on next-gen distribution efforts, expanding the availability of its content across platforms and devices to reach the modern viewer. The new company has plans to migrate to one tech stack, which will require extensive retooling, as well as exploring cost-saving automation opportunities for its operations.
Since the merger, the new giant that is Warner Bros Discovery has had a shaky start, forcing the company to wind down operations and cut back on content, which included the very public scrapping of the “Batgirl” movie. However, it now seems the company may have been ahead of the curve, as a wider trend of cutbacks has been seen from peers in the space. This early move, combined with a hyper-focus on cash generation, seeks to establish WBD as an outperformer in an industry on the downturn.
