Who you are
- Ability and willingness to commute to our Watertown, MA office at least twice per week
- Undergraduate currently pursuing a degree in Marketing or a relevant major
- Completed Coursework in Marketing, Communications, or related field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Excel
- Ability to learn quickly and multi-task in a fast-faced, dynamic environment
- Experience in sales, customer service, or similar a big plus
What the job involves
- ButcherBox is seeking an enthusiastic and curious intern to join the Member Marketing Team to assist the team and help achieve our goals
- You will gain hands-on experience in the e-commerce and food industries as part of our marketing department, focusing on project support for our retention and reactivation marketing programs
- You will have the opportunity to learn how an internal marketing team operates, what KPI's are used, and how they apply to our work
- Participate in all team and department meetings as an active member of the Member Marketing Team
- Work cross-functionally to get exposure to other departments as a part of the Member Marketing Team
- Partner with the Member Marketing team on strategic projects and revenue-driving initiatives
- Assist in email campaign Building, Execution, QA, and Reporting
- Implement competitive analysis and share insights/recommendations/examples with Member Marketing team
- Meet once per week with ButcherBox’s People Ops team and interns from other department to share challenges, wins, and knowledge
Our take
Dollar sales of meat are on the rise, with a growing consumer preference in the US for sustainably sourced, fairly bought meat. Subscription box purchases across DTC businesses are proving a runaway success, too. So it’s perhaps unsurprising that ButcherBox, a subscription meat company combining all these upwards trends, has been having a strong few years.
Given that ButcherBox hit upon a smart market niche, it is no surprise that competing startups are entering the space - and existing butchers are expanding to take a piece too. FarmFoods, for example, is a highly recommended rival, and Omaha Steaks saw substantial spikes in interest recently. That said, ButcherBox has continued to conduct a savvy marketing campaign that sees it win out on name recognition, and has allowed the company to bootstrap itself to $600M in revenue.
Recently, the company expanded into the pet food market, capitalizing on its large base of pet-owning customers, a move that holds significant potential as a promising new venture. Additionally, the company made its first acquisition in Truffle Shuffle, a vitual cook-along platform. This acqusition is aimed at boosting cosnumer confidence across the US, particularly within the ButcherBox community. The company is going from success to success and it will be an exciting one to watch in the coming years.
