What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Intern to join the team and support the evolution of our cloud platforms, helping to build reliable, scalable systems that power real missions in space
- As part of the Ground Segment team, you’ll work alongside engineers across software, platform, and operations to support our growing cloud infrastructure and deployment systems
- Building and maintaining cloud infrastructure that supports satellite operations and data services
- Supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
- Working with containerised environments and modern cloud-native tools
- Monitoring system performance and helping troubleshoot live environments and build systems
- Improving reliability, scalability, and efficiency across our platforms
- Documenting systems and contributing to better ways of working

Our take
Satellite data is critical for solving some of the world's most pressing matters, such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity. While precise, insight-collating data tools are available, the problem is that they lack interoperability between platforms. Combining data from different satellites is notoriously difficult.
Founded in 2015, Open Cosmos is a SpaceTech startup aiming to simplify access to space. The company designs, manufactures and operates satellites that are part of its "Open Constellation". Meanwhile, its platform, DataCosmos, makes access to satellite data easier for organisations and governments. It combines earth observation data from multiple sources to help mitigate environmental and sustainability challenges.
Partnerships with organisations such as Innovate UK, ESA and the UK Space Agency are supporting Open Cosmos as it expands operations, growing its team and ideas. 2025 saw the company begin manufacturing the first 6G satellite research lab, the 6GStarLab. In 2026, it announced ConnectedCosmos, which will offer secure communications for international businesses and government bodies without the need for mega constellations. The company, then, is positioning itself at the forefront of next-generation, space-based communication.
