What the job involves
- We are looking for Java Engineers and Senior Java Engineers for a number of teams within Payments, Customer Experience and Identity & Performance Optimizations (IPO) Solutions
- As an engineer at Adyen , you will be responsible for the full development cycle from software design to testing and ensuring everything works as expected in production. You will work with one of the biggest PostgreSQL databases out there, focusing on maintaining the platform's performance and reliability
- You will build and maintain our distributed high-performance platform
- You will be part of a diverse and inclusive team
- We launch fast and iterate often. Concretely, this means that within your first few weeks, you will bring code live that impacts many businesses and shoppers
- You will be fully responsible from its initial design to bringing new functionality live
- Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable
- Collaborate across teams and time zones to make things happen, review code and be open to feedback

Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
