Who you are
- Currently enrolled as a student at a Canadian post-secondary institution or technical bootcamp
- New graduates - Within 6 months of your graduation date
- Available to work full-time hours
- Residing in Canada
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or recently graduated within the last 6 months)
- A foundational understanding of basic accounting principles (e.g., debits/credits, chart of accounts)
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) and ability to quickly learn new software systems
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong commitment to accuracy in all tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork

- At Wealthsimple, we offer 4 to 8-month internships that are open to co-op and non-co-op students, and recent grads

- The Accounting team is responsible for the financial backbone of Wealthsimple
- We manage the company's financial records, ensure compliance with IFRS, and provide timely, accurate financial information to support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency across all business units
- We are a collaborative, detail-oriented team that plays a crucial role in enabling the company's high-growth objectives
- The Accounting Intern will be a crucial support member for the Finance and Accounting team, gaining hands-on, foundational experience in a fast-paced, high-growth financial technology environment
- This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios and direct
- Assist with the month-end and quarter-end close processes, including preparing routine journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the Senior Accountant in day-to-day functions, as well as ad-hoc projects which may include bank reconciliations, accruals, and ad hoc tasks
- Perform financial data entry and review supporting documentation to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
- Assisting in the preparation of schedules for external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance
- Creating and updating documentation for accounting policies and procedures
- Learn about regulatory compliance, internal controls, and the application of accounting principles (IFRS) in a dynamic, regulated fintech context

Our take
Wealthsimple is one of a crop of robo-advisors trying to democratise investment management. These companies are disrupting the industry by automating many of the processes involved in investment, removing the need for human advisors.
But while other so-called robo-advisors are focused on courting the high end of the market, Wealthsimple is trying to provide the same types of tools and advice to all users, regardless of the amount they have to invest.
Wealthsimple does have higher fees than some other robo-advisors such as Betterment and Charles Schwab. However, the company believes that it provides a more user-friendly platform, tailored to millennials who will be attracted to Wealthsimple due to its ease of use and social impact offerings.
