Role
Who you are
- An Engineering Manager within commuting distance of the Burnaby, BC office
- 10+ years’ of software engineering experience
- 3+ years’ experience in an engineering leadership role, with a track record managing small teams and delivering complex, full-stack / front-end-heavy projects
- Expertise in at least one general application-development language (Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, etc.), with a preference for React/React Native familiarity given Home's front-end surface
- Demonstrated aptitude and judgment for applying AI to developer productivity and, ideally, product features — including enabling safe AI tool adoption on the team
- Ability to design secure, scalable, performant software and give constructive feedback on team designs
- A track record coaching developers via mentoring, reviews, and retrospectives
- Strong partnership skills with product and design stakeholders — communicating technical tradeoffs and applying product judgment to reach the best customer outcomes
- Experience recruiting and growing engineering teams from the ground up

- As the Engineering Manager, you will lead the team's engineering function and deliver on ambitious 0-1 roadmaps
- Manage engineers to design, develop, and deliver scalable architecture, intelligent personalization, and targeted experiences for a range of customer segments
- Partner with product and design stakeholders to prioritize the roadmap and translate the company's strategic ambitions into actionable OKRs
- Hire and grow the engineering team, recruiting and onboarding experienced engineers
- Be a role model for our cultural values and mentor engineers in technical skillset, autonomy, communication, and collaboration
- Ensure engineering best practices, quality, and operational excellence across the team

Since its inception in 2011, Remitly has focussed on helping immigrants to send money across the world faster, cheaper and easier. The company has grown exponentially since then and now operates across multiple continents. Remitly put down most of its success on putting its customers first.
The emergence of digital banks with low transaction fees cross-country has increased competition in a space where Remitly was dominant for many years. The company must continue to innovate its product to ensure it is the go-to place for these types of payments.
That said, Remitly continues to partner with exciting companies and improve their service for loyal customers. The company is setting its sights beyond its core remittance service, such as through the introduction of Passbook, an app that allows customers to access digital banking through a partner bank.
