Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for high-ownership self-starters that are passionate about end-user impact
- This is a hybrid role with the expectation of working at least 3 days a week from our downtown Toronto or San Francisco hubs
- Extensive experience in building frameworks, libraries, and distributed systems with an eye for reliability, observability, and performance
- An understanding of modern frontend technologies, particularly TypeScript, React, JavaScript, CSS, and the DOM, with 5+ years of frontend development experience
- Ability to craft and deliver high-quality software solutions, including production-ready code, RESTful APIs, and managing infrastructure to industry standards
- Track record of successfully delivering complex projects with clear, structured thinking and leadership from concept to deployment
- Experience working in dynamic, fast-paced environments, such as startups, thriving in collaborative, growth-oriented settings
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams from diverse backgrounds
- Strong ownership and personal accountability which are driven by your problem-solving skills, creativity, and initiative in driving projects to completion
- Bonus: Experience in AI, legal tech, or social impact projects
What the job involves
- As part of our team, you’ll work cross-functionally to scope and implement solutions that increase the speed, capacity, and quality of the document generation engine at EvenUp
- The innovations you drive on this team will be an instrumental part of achieving EvenUp’s mission to ensure that personal injury victims receive the rightful compensation they deserve
- Some of the initiatives you’ll be a part of include:
- Enhancing the capabilities of EvenUp’s AI-native and expert-review workflows
- Implementing and integrating LLM-based solutions that immediately improve outcomes for our customers
- Developing the systems to evaluate the efficacy and quality of key customer deliverables
- Contributing to the evolution of EvenUp’s document generation products at the bleeding edge of the present-day AI revolution
- In doing so, you’ll supercharge the engine that powers EvenUp, collaborating with leaders across the company to execute on mission-critical opportunities
- You’ll uphold the high-quality bar on our team, and directly impact EvenUp’s success by applying data-driven insights alongside our foundational commitment to crafting exceptional customer-driven experiences
- Product Development for AI-Native Workflows: Contribute to end-to-end AI workflows by integrating traditional SaaS with AI applications, and rapidly prototyping zero-to-one features for customer needs, all while balancing innovation with pragmatism
- Cross-functional Work: Collaborate with our founders, product managers, and designers to brainstorm, scope, and realize new features
- Architecture & Engineering Excellence: Establish best practices for architecture, coding, and delivery while scoping, leading, and building user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems
- Code Quality & Security: Deliver secure, compliant code for sensitive data, ensuring quality through testing, reviews, and standards adherence while monitoring, debugging, and optimizing performance across the stack
- Mentorship & Team Growth: Mentor team members by providing feedback on code and design, while actively contributing to team culture, retrospectives, and continuous improvement efforts
- Operational Responsibilities: Handle on-call responsibilities to resolve issues and reduce toil, while documenting processes to ensure alignment with company and industry standards
Our take
Every year, millions of personal injury cases in the US are resolved with only a small fraction going to trial, leaving many victims potentially under-compensated due to inaccurate settlement proposals. EvenUp aims to change this by leveraging AI technology to streamline the assessment of injury cases.
The AI tools evaluate raw case files, including medical and police records, creating tailored "demand packages" that present comprehensive compensation arguments. This improves lawyer performance and victim outcomes.
Despite concerns about AI bias and privacy, EvenUp has garnered significant investor interest, closing a funding round in 2024 that was one of the largest in the history of legal AI. Now valued at over $1 billion, it is investing in its team and introducing new techniques and products for personal injury and other legal areas.
