- Are an experienced engineering leader with a background in customer-facing, large-scale applications—ideally in the mapping or geospatial domain

What the job involves
- Strava is hiring an Engineering Manager to build and lead our Mapping team within our Map Platform organization
- This is an opportunity to be part of a team that is laying the foundation of rich and immersive map experiences that help our users plan, navigate and relive their activities
- As an Engineering Manager for the Mapping team, you will be responsible for the execution of the Map Platform strategy and the management of the team
- Lead and Inspire: Build and mentor a skilled team of geospatial cloud engineers. You’ll foster an inclusive, high-performing culture where every voice is heard
- Drive Innovation: Oversee the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-based mapping solutions that blend both raster and vector capabilities. Your work will be pivotal in powering rich, immersive map experiences for our global community
- Collaborate and Strategize: Partner with product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineering leaders to shape a clear roadmap. You’ll balance product priorities with technical best practices, ensuring our solutions are both user-friendly and technically robust
- Communicate and Execute: Guide your team through agile development cycles, ensuring clear documentation and transparency using tools like Confluence and JIRA. Your strategic oversight will help steer projects from concept to delivery
Our take
Strava has created an online network where runners, swimmers and cyclists can record fitness activities, and compare and compete with their community. It offers both a free and premium subscription service with added features. The company also partners with local councils and urban planners who purchase valuable journey data from Strava which can be used to map out cities and develop safer cycle paths.
The platform helps members discover and plan workouts, as well as offering a leaderboard which is updated using GPS as users compete for the top spot on particular fitness segments.
With over 125 million athletes and growing, Strava released several new product rollouts in 2024, including an AI-enabled leaderboard. A partnership with the wearable fitness tracker Oura will mean Strava software is available on wearables, taking Strava into fresh competition with the likes of Peloton and Apple.
