Role
Who you are
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in customer-facing technical roles such as applications engineering, solutions engineering, or technical product management
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
- Demonstrated professional experience delivering complex technical solutions in customer environments, beyond purely administrative project oversight
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, technicians, project managers, and customer success professionals
- Significant hands-on experience in AI robotics or physical AI systems, including leading deployments into production or operational environments
- Track record of commercial deployment of robotics, automation, or physical AI products
- Strong customer-facing background, including requirements definition, system architecture, validation, and commissioning
- Ability to manage multiple customer programs with competing priorities and delivery timelines
- Multidisciplinary technical and people leadership
- Commercial deployment of robotics, automation, and physical AI systems
- Customer-facing technical communication and solution definition
- Deployment readiness, validation, and operational performance management
- Operates as an owner of customer technical outcomes and delivery success

What the job involves
- Sanctuary AI is seeking a Head of Applications and Customer Success to lead the commercial deployment and customer-facing delivery of physical AI–enabled automation solutions
- This role is responsible for ensuring Sanctuary AI’s robotic and AI technologies are successfully translated into scalable, reliable, and high-performing solutions within customer production environments
- The position combines technical leadership, solution architecture ownership, people management, and customer success accountability, overseeing multidisciplinary teams while remaining directly involved in identifying customer opportunities and architecting end-to-end technical solutions
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary organization including applications engineers, technicians, project managers, and customer success professionals
- Own customer-facing technical delivery and customer success outcomes across multiple commercial deployments
- Translate customer business and operational requirements into deployable physical AI and automation solutions
- Oversee end-to-end customer phases including technical discovery, solution definition, deployment planning, commissioning support, and post-deployment optimization
- Ensure customer-facing systems meet operational, safety, reliability, and performance requirements
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams to align customer needs with product capabilities and deployment readiness
- Establish documentation standards, validation processes, and customer acceptance frameworks to support repeatable deployments
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex customer-facing technical, delivery, and performance issues
- Manage priorities, resources, and execution across multiple concurrent customer programs
- Represent the Applications and Customer Success organization in internal leadership discussions and external customer engagements

Our take
Sanctuary has set itself the ambitious task of developing human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots. It intends for these to complement the human labor market - and eventually help humans settle in outer space.
Its robots are modelled on the size and shape of humans, and their cognitive architecture is based on the subsystems of the human brain. The hope is that this puts the so-far elusive artificial general intelligence (AGI) in closer reach.
It’s an ambitious mission, but the Sanctuary team have remarkable expertise and experience, which positions them well to take on the challenge. Some critics do suggest that its technology isn’t anything new, and that AGI (technologically glamorous though it may be) is no better than alternate, highly specialised systems. If it can be done, however, there’s no doubt it’ll prove a remarkable deep-tech breakthrough.
