In the US, Black women are 3 times more likely to experience a pregnancy-related death than white women, twice as likely to experience a pregnancy-related complication and 49% more likely to give birth prematurely. These staggering disparities are what Mae Health wants to help fix, with a culturally digital health platform for Black expectant mothers.
The Mae platform provides users with weekly health tracking, personalized lifestyle and care tips, and access to culturally competent experts. This helps expectant mothers to stay in control, understand symptoms and get their questions answered. Overall, Mae's approach is based on the belief that the experiences and cultural identities of Black women should be respected in their care.
Mae Health has already made an impressive impact. It supports beneficiaries in six states across many of the largest Medicaid insurance plans, and has achieved a 30% reduction in C-section rates and a 30% reduction in preterm birth rates (compared to the National averages for Black women). On top of this, an oversubscribed Seed round of funding puts Mae in a great position, as it invests in scaling its services.
