Role
Who you are
- Previous experience of leading a team of Build Engineers
- Knowledge of how builds are produced in the gaming industry
- Experience with asset management/source control systems such as Perforce
- Experience with CI/CD build systems such as TeamCity
- Intermediate level knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Batch, Kotlin and/or Python
- Some previous experience using C++ and Unreal Engine 5 would be an advantage
- Intermediate level AWS management skills would be an advantage
- Self-motivated and driven to creatively solve problems
- Strong communication skills, and comfortable working across teams
- Bachelor’s degree with a Computer Science/Software Engineering focus or similar experience
What the job involves
- As Lead Build Engineer you will lead a remote team of Build engineers and programmers
- This role will work closely with internal stakeholders to provide services that enhance the user experience for all of Build A Rocket Boy
- Build Engineers are responsible for ensuring the day-to-day stability of the game by working closely with the QA department to ensure timely bug-fixes from the rest of the development team and to give first line support for build & build infrastructure related issues for the development team
- They are also expected to be responsible for maintaining and improving the build process itself
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural coaching for the Build team; and guide the professional development of team members
- Liaise with QA and development teams to integrate critical bug-fixes and features into builds
- Maintain and improve build machines’ TeamCity build processes
- Handle simple merge and conflict issues
- Develop scripts to automate common processes
- Give first line support for build & build infrastructure related issues for the development team

BARB was founded by Leslie Benzies, the high-profile producer and developer who helmed the Grand Theft Auto franchise, one of the biggest and best-selling media titles in the world. This has lent the studio a great deal of media and industry attention. This pedigree (and subsequent financial backing) has allowed the company to attract some of the best and brightest developer talent too.
One of the studio's first titles, "Everywhere", has been described as an innovative “multi-world game experience”. This has set a strong precedent for the studio, which has already built a reputation as a disruptor and potential competitor for fellow Scotland-based developer Rockstar, which Benzies previously worked for. The highly anticipated MindsEye will be released via the Everywhere world in 2023.
