Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of product management experience
- Ability to get things done: you have a track record of shipping software that made a difference for your customers
- Excellent product sense: you have a good understanding of what makes for a high-quality product and are opinionated about what solutions will be successful
- Deep customer empathy: you care about helping your customers and are skilled at performing research to uncover their true needs
- Strong data fluency: you effectively gather and integrate quantitative and qualitative data to inform your decision-making and update your intuition
- Proficiency handling ambiguity: you make sure your goals are clearly defined and display significant independence in achieving them
- Clear written and verbal communication: you’re a force for clarity and alignment, ensuring everyone’s on the same page
- Competence with technical complexity: you can understand the high-level architecture of a product and its implications for the customer experience, and you’re comfortable talking with engineers about project scope and tradeoffs
What the job involves
- Owner is building the most trusted brand in small business software: a product-led journey that helps restaurant owners understand their opportunity, trust Owner, and take action
- The Grader is the #1 way owners start their journey with Owner, and we’re looking for a Product Manager to evolve it into a more powerful system that reaches more owners, increases conversion, and accelerates Owner’s growth rate.
- Own one of the most important products for transforming the customer journey and accelerating growth at Owner
- Increase the percentage of qualified restaurant owners who join Owner after starting with the Grader
- Evolve the Grader from a high-performing funnel into a more powerful growth system across acquisition, evaluation, conversion, and post-purchase launch
- Identify where owners lose trust, get confused, or drop off, then ship improvements that make the path to joining Owner feel clearer, more valuable, and more compelling
- Use data, experimentation, and customer insight to understand the funnel deeply and prioritize the work most likely to increase Owner’s growth rate
- You’ll partner closely with Design and Engineering to create a high-converting, high-trust product experience for restaurant owners
- You’ll collaborate with Analytics, RevOps, Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, and Launch to connect the Grader journey to the broader Owner growth system
- You’ll work with leadership across Product and GTM to align the roadmap around the highest-leverage opportunities to help more owners join Owner
Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 10,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2025 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
