- Seasoned software engineer with robust experience in development lifecycle management and modern engineering practices
- Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript, with strong skills in web/app frameworks like React and ReactNative
- Experience with mobile app development, preferably with some experience of web development
- Experienced team manager with experience of guiding engineering crews through complex tech projects
- Experienced coach, helping engineers to grow and achieve both their goals and Virgin Red’s
- Skilled communicator, able to bridge the gap between technical jargon and plain language for all stakeholders
- Comfortable with DevOps practices e.g. working with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, observability platforms such as Datadog
- Equipped with a Computer Science degree or equivalent real-world experience, preferably from a tech-focused environment
What the job involves
- Virgin Red is seeking a dynamic App & Web Engineering Manager to lead our charge
- You'll be orchestrating our mobile and web app development, guiding your team, and ensuring our tech stays cutting-edge
- We expect, roughly, a 60/40 split between hands-on tech leadership and team management
- Guide teams through complex projects, aligning our technical compass with business goals and product strategies. You might come from an Engineering Lead, Technical Lead, Principle Engineer or Engineering Manager role
- Chart the course for web and mobile app engineering, ensuring our architecture is both robust and forward-thinking
- Manage and coach our app and web engineers
- Build and maintain a smooth-running CI/CD pipeline, with automated testing as our quality assurance sidekick
- Partner with Product Managers, Designers and others to craft products that both dazzle users and meet business needs
- Keep our tech toolbox cutting-edge, exploring innovations like AI-assisted coding and smarter testing practices
- Use metrics and feedback as our guiding stars, steering the ship towards continuous improvement and anticipating future hurdles
- Translate tech-talk into everyday language, fostering a collaborative environment where ideas can flourish across all levels
- Create a diverse and inclusive environment, where different persectives are encouraged and innovation and creativity can flourish
