Who you are

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and scalable backend systems
Experience in backend development, with a focus on cloud-based solutions
Experience building public facing APIs in Go
Experience integrating billing systems
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience deploying to Kubernetes
Solid understanding of database technologies (SQL, NoSQL)
Familiarity with HTTP, WebSockets, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and other communication protocols
Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI)
Experience adding telemetry to your code (ideally OpenTelemetry)
Experience being on-call for production systems
Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Pulumi, Terraform, CloudFormation)
Proven work experience in a similar role
Experience of distributed systems, load balancing, and system monitoring
Excellent communication ability
Analytical and multi-tasking skills

What the job involves

You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining our cloud-based backend infrastructure to ensure it is robust, scalable, and secure
Design and Development: Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend services and APIs using cloud technologies
Cloud Infrastructure: Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) ensuring high availability, scalability, and security
Microservices: Architect and implement microservices-based solutions, ensuring efficient integration and communication between services
Database Management: Design, implement, and manage databases (SQL, NoSQL), optimizing for performance and reliability
Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices in software development
Collaboration: Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions
Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize application performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks and potential issues
Security: Implement and advocate for best security practices, ensuring data protection and compliance with relevant regulations
Automation: Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating deployment processes to streamline release cycles

SurrealDB has been operating in this the sector since 2020 and received its first round of seed funding in 2023. This is indicative of a rising need for cloud database management companies such as this.

Despite larger competitors, SurrealDB’s services have a more specific aim than just the management of databases. The mission is to improve app development by scaling down reliance on back-end APIs and layering, thus making response times to queries faster and simplifying what is often an interconnected and complicated database of servers and programmes.
