Role
Who you are
- 10+ years of experience developing and driving digital and offline marketing campaigns/initiatives from inception to execution for leading brands
- Bachelor's degree in business or marketing and 10+ years of experience in marketing, preferably at an organization within the Retail, Apparel, Sport, or product marketing sectors
- Strong leadership abilities with experience leading teams in a fast-paced environment
- Deep understanding and expertise in managing omnichannel campaigns, leveraging product insights to drive initiatives from inception to execution
- Energetic, creative thinker with a strong grasp of future marketing trends, culture, and competitive dynamics
- Extensive experience in creative brief development and collaboration with creative teams/agencies, including on-set work
- Adaptable and positive in managing changing priorities and changing deliverables or business needs
- Strong strategic thinking skills and comfort with ambiguity, along with experience preparing materials for executive audiences
What the job involves
- As Director of Marketing - Lifestyle & Apparel, you will lead the development and execution of high-impact marketing campaigns and activations on behalf of Overtime’s Lifestyle & Apparel vertical with the goals of driving brand awareness, audience engagement and revenue
- You will oversee end-to-end campaign execution, from brief to launch, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints
- Develop and lead the execution of brand campaigns across multiple channels, including digital, retail, media, events, and more
- Responsible for driving the calendar strategy for full funnel brand activity with a 2-year planning horizon, acting as critical cross-functional partner in building a calendar rooted in business priorities, consumer mindset, and KPIs
- Collaborate on annual and seasonal marketing narrative to drive an aligned product and marketing messaging across the marketplace
- Develop customer acquisition and retention strategies across key demographics
- Leverage customer data and market insights to inform marketing strategies and campaign targeting
- Drive engagement across digital platforms including social media, email/SMS marketing, and e-commerce
- Identify opportunities to create meaningful connections with audiences through innovative experiences and activations
- Assist in identifying and executing strategic brand partnerships and collaborations that elevate the Overtime profile
- Effectively manage stakeholders and drive leadership across key cross-functional teams to guide strategic vision and remove roadblocks for the team
- Guide the team to deliver strong briefs that inspire creative teams and drive impact, including insight development, competitor and market trends, category opportunities, establishing campaign objective + KPIs, target audience, and messaging hierarchy
- Drive brand differentiation in the competitive sportswear and lifestyle apparel landscape through innovative positioning and messaging
- Lead marketing analysis and results sharing across the cross-functional teams and using results to inform and adjust strategy
- Responsible for managing the annual operating budget for campaign portfolio and accountable to budget allocation and day to day management
Our take
Gen Z prefers short-form highlights content to full sports league matches, and tight NBA licensing restrictions mean that independent content platforms can’t trim matches to cater to this younger audience. Overtime saw this problem and turned it into a market opportunity.
It has built a short-form content empire around unlicensed amateur sports leagues, with a focus on basketball. It has a substantial multi-platform presence across social media, featuring reality-TV-style dispatches and shows focused on up-and-coming players with strong viral potential.
The brand now has over 100M followers, most of them Gen Z or younger Millennials, and its videos rack up well over 3B views each month. This brings in substantial ad revenue for Overtime, supplemented with merchandise sales. It has also recently ventured into the NFT space with its partnership with Magic Eden.
The company has also launched its own youth basketball league and pulled in high-profile backers including Jeff Bezos, Drake, and Kevin Durant, which is remarkable progress for the still relatively young company. With a comfortable and unchallenged position in this niche, Overtime looks set to continue building out a leading platform.
