Felyx is a startup hoping to help city dwellers travel their ‘last-mile’ with a short-range scooter rental network. It's an apt time: European demand for scooter-sharing systems is expected to grow 26.2 percent annually through 2025.
The startup has maintained an edge in a highly competitive space by focusing on the basics. It finely tunes its e-mopeds for sharing services, dynamically prices rides to maximise revenues and hires local teams for mechanical support and customer service.
The company has secured licenses to operate in all of its cities, including Amsterdam, and is hoping that its stellar reputation with local authorities allows for its European expansion plans to proceed smoothly. It has sold its German operations to Emmy, with the intention that the competitor company expands Felyx operations in this underserved market.
To grow in this highly regulated industry, Felyx must convince the leaders of each city that concerns over rider and pedestrian safety, privacy and illegal dumping are outweighed by the sustainability and traffic benefits they can bring.
