Role
Who you are
- Bachelors degree in: Finance, Accounting, Business, related field, or combination of professional experience
- 4+ years of experience in revenue accounting; A combination of industry and public accounting experience is preferred, but not required
- Proven ability to manage and understand US GAAP, specifically revenue accounting (ASC 606) and contract cost accounting (ASC 340)
- Experience with Netsuite (or an equivalent ERP system) and FloQast
- Proven ability to design, implement, and continuously optimize close processes, as well as internal controls, aimed at balancing operational risk, quality, and increased efficiencies
- Demonstrated strength with analytical and problem-solving skills, including advanced ability to analyze and present data
- System implementation experience
- Proven ability to maintain excellent attention to detail and accuracy
What the job involves
- Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this role will be an integral part of bringing the vision of what the Strava product can be for athletes through driving strategic company-wide efforts, catalyzing and enabling scale and footprint expansions, and preparing for public-company readiness
- This role is highly cross functional and will work closely with Strategy, Finance, and Partnerships, to help scale Strava for Business (SfB)
- You will be a key member of a highly-talented team that enables our business growth, aligns team development with company goals and values, and continues to evolve our accounting and reporting infrastructure
- Lead, prepare, and manage aspects of the monthly close activities, including: preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations and flux analysis
- Own revenue recognition and related processes such as commissions and inventory accruals for Strava for Business and The Strava Shop
- Review customer contracts and determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606, including documenting nonstandard terms
- Identify and scale processes to improve efficiencies and incorporate systems and best practices to maximize process automation
- Facilitate and support audits through the delivery of records and documentation to external auditors, as required
- Serve as a key resource for FP&A and Controllership to deliver relevant, timely, and accurate financial data and metrics to enable operational efficiency
- Be part of a public readiness journey from late-stage private to public including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
- You Will Be Successful Here By:
- Developing, maintaining and adhering to: policies and procedures, calendars, checklists, process maps, and other procedural documentation. Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures. Partner cross-functionally to provide compliance reporting and process controls
- Performing regular internal review procedures to ensure proper documentation, records, and reviews and sign-offs. Conduct research to ensure any anomalies are explained and resolved
- Operating as an accounting subject matter expert, collaborating with business stakeholders on business-lead initiatives. Facilitate the development of project plans and schedules, as necessary
- Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of all systems to independently research and resolve issues

Strava has created an online network where runners, swimmers and cyclists can record fitness activities, and compare and compete with their community. It offers both a free and premium subscription service with added features. The company also partners with local councils and urban planners who purchase valuable journey data from Strava which can be used to map out cities and develop safer cycle paths.
The platform helps members discover and plan workouts, as well as offering a leaderboard which is updated using GPS as users compete for the top spot on particular fitness segments.
With over 125 million athletes and growing, Strava released several new product rollouts in 2024, including an AI-enabled leaderboard. A partnership with the wearable fitness tracker Oura will mean Strava software is available on wearables, taking the company into fresh competition with the likes of Peloton and Apple. In 2025, the company secured new funding in a round led by Sequoia Capital, growing its value to $2.2 billion.
