Role
Who you are
- As our first Senior Manager Strategic FP&A Marketing you should have 7+ years of finance experience, plus:
- Experience working within Sales Finance and driving FP&A processes, preferably within a high-growth marketplace, e-commerce, creator platform, or startup environment
- Prior experience partnering closely with sales organizations and developing sales compensation or commission models
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a proven track record of transforming data into insights
- Collaborative and capable of influencing business partners to course correct, based on sound analysis and business judgment
- You are comfortable operating on a small team and will get in the weeds to produce results in a fast-paced environment
What the job involves
- As Senior Manager Strategic FP&A Sales, you will be a key player in the usage and reporting of financial and operational KPIs to inform leadership in areas of budgeting, reporting, forecasting and alignment between finance and sales leaders
- Ownership of reporting to Whatnot leadership, including financial narrative development, in-depth understanding of drivers, and establishing data packages
- Manage financial processes such as month-end reporting and variance analysis, forecasting, budget planning, and annual budgeting
- Proactively provide insights and propose solutions to areas of risk and opportunity to influence business strategy
- Partner closely with Sales Leadership, Revenue Operations and People Team in developing sales plans/quotas
- Streamline the forecast process, increase forecast accuracy, align across various teams and stakeholders and enable meaningful forecast reviews with leadership
- Responsible for the development of data packages, both external and internal requests and cadenced reporting (subject matter expert)
- Develop and maintain KPIs, including associated research, comparable company analysis, consolidation, data visualization and packaging
Our take
The collectible toy market is large, and Whatnot has built a unique social platform that enables sellers to use livestreams to showcase their products and reach more buyers. The company’s focus is on collectible toys, some of which are rare and can cost thousands of dollars, and has also expanded to sports cards.
The idea of Whatnot was led by buyer trends. Instagram's live feature became a popular place for selling toys and trading cards, but of course was not set up to facilitate bidding or handling payments after a sale occurs. Whatnot combines live showcasing with follow-up sale capabilities, thus serving the community in a more novel way than established collectibles market players such as eBay.
The company has grown fast. It was established in 2019 and has already expanded from its original category - Funko Pop figurines - to Pokemon cards, pins, sports cards, and many more. There is still plenty of scope for expanding into new categories, as the company aims to establish itself as the go-to for this large niche, which will be facilitated by the strong levels of funding that Whatnot has raised.
