Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, or equivalent project work
- Experience building web applications using TypeScript and React
- Ability to make data-driven decisions, using tools like Databricks
- Familiarity with backend development concepts such as APIs and server-side logic
- Ability to work across the stack and connect frontend applications to backend systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners
Desirable
- Experience with Python, Golang, or other backend languages
- Familiarity with large-scale web platforms, microservice architecture and architecture patterns for large-scale code bases
- Interest in AI-powered or data-driven product experiences
- Comfortable working in early-stage or ambiguous product environments
- Proactive mindset with curiosity about improving products and processes
What the job involves
- The Dash Experiences organization at Dropbox is responsible for shaping core user experiences across web, mobile, desktop, and emerging AI-powered surfaces. We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Dash Experiences team and help build new, AI-first product experiences
- In this role, you will work on application design, development, and maintenance of AI-powered software applications within the Dropbox Dash product ecosystem. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including product managers, data scientists, and ML engineers to build robust, scalable solutions that power user-facing experiences
- This is a 0→1 product environment, where you’ll contribute across the stack—from building frontend experiences in React to developing APIs and connecting backend systems. You’ll have the opportunity to learn, grow, and make meaningful product impact while working alongside experienced engineers in a highly collaborative setting
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for AI-powered software applications
- Work closely with ML engineers to integrate AI components seamlessly into the overall software product architecture
- Develop responsive and performant frontend applications using modern web technologies such as HTML, CSS, Typescript, and frameworks like React
- Implement interactive user interfaces that effectively communicate complex AI functionalities and data insights to end-users
- Work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure seamless integration of design elements, branding, and usability principles into the frontend development process
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate frontend components with server-side logic and APIs, ensuring optimal performance and data flow
- Optimize frontend performance to deliver fast and efficient user experiences, considering factors such as page load times, rendering speed, and responsiveness
- Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in frontend development, UI/UX design, and AI technologies, bringing innovative ideas and best practices to the team
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and provide mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented culture
- Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Our take
Dropbox started by helping people bring together their files in one central place. The contents of these folders are synchronised to Dropbox's servers along with other computers and devices where the user has installed Dropbox, keeping the same files up-to-date across all devices.
Nowadays, there are lots of competing companies in cloud storage, and some with better distribution (e.g. Google and Apple). This explains why Dropbox is making a big push to reinvent itself after a fairly disappointing run since its IPO in 2018. The new Dropbox turns folders into "Spaces", which are collaboration hubs for teams, complete with comment streams, artificial intelligence tools and integrations into services such as Slack.
The company continues to build out its offerings through acquisitions, such as that of Formswift, bolstering its end-to-end agreement workflow capabilities. Indeed, It's very clear that Dropbox is trying to make a big move from being just a storage company. This seems to be a necessary move given the competitive nature of the industry it is operating within.
