Role
Who you are
- You have a proven track record as a Full-stack Web Developer with experience in a production environment
- You are an entrepreneurial and flexible problem-solver, comfortable navigating ambiguity and thriving in a fast-paced, agile development environment
- You work autonomously, moving quickly from idea to implementation, and aren’t afraid to experiment, iterate, and refine solutions based on what you learn
- You enjoy taking ownership of projects and seeing them through to completion
- You possess strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- You are willing to work on-site in Billerica, MA as needed to test, debug, and release factory software
Desirable
- Experience with 3D models, processing, or analysis
- Experience with web development in a mixed local/cloud hybrid setup
- Background working with hardware or equipment, or an appreciation for the bridge between software and the physical world
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD
- Familiarity with data engineering and dashboarding tools

What the job involves
- Join a small, scrappy team driving Form Now, our new print-on-demand service that brings professional 3D printing to customers faster and more affordably than ever
- As a Software Engineer, you’ll build and scale our custom Manufacturing Execution System (MES), which keeps our factory running efficiently and automatically
- You’ll design and improve the software that powers our production line, solve complex technical challenges, and play a key role in launching a new class of 3D printing at scale
- Develop and implement core software features for the Form Now print-on-demand service
- Architect and build the next generation of factory software, including our custom Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
- Create robust backend code using Python/Django, and user-facing frontend code with Next.js and React.js
- Collaborate cross-functionally with factory operators, product managers, and leadership to define and deliver new features and integrations
- Take full ownership of your projects, from initial scoping and development to testing, implementation, and ongoing support
- Maintain and improve our existing codebase, ensuring reliability and scalability in a production environment
Our take
Formlabs' founders met at MIT in 2011, and set about creating a company that would disrupt the 3D printing market. While the majority of the industry was experiencing a crash, Formlabs managed to buck the trend by implementing additive manufacturing (stereolithography) to a desktop form factor.
While many 3D printing manufacturers have tried in vain to market their hardware to home users, Formlabs has maintained a laser-sharp focus on serving the needs of professionals and large-scale companies such as Coke and Sony. Striving to keep costs low while maintaining an optimal user experience, the company has sold well over 100,000 printers.
With considerable funding at its back, Formlabs has continued to develop new solutions such as a series of mass manufacturing solutions that enable its customers to dramatically increase their 3D printing output. As the largest supplier of professional SLA and SLS 3D printers in the world, the company is well set to further its position and achieve further global growth.
