Role
Who you are
- At least 3-5 years shaping growth and strategy in business development, consulting, corporate strategy, investment banking, or a high-growth, fast-paced startup
- Academic grounding in Business Administration, Business Engineering & Management (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen), Economics, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree is a plus)
- Exposure to mobility, automotive, or tech industries is a strong advantage
- Confident project driver: able to juggle multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and deliver under pressure
- Sharp Communicator: you can create crisp and professional documents, pitch ideas, and support partner negotiations with clarity and impact
- Analytical mindset: Skilled in partnership business modelling, financial analysis, and scenario planning to support high-stakes decisions
- Ability to understand and incorporate technical and regulatory constraints of a deep-tech mobility product into commercial work
- Comfortable working across tools and systems: Google / PowerPoint Slides, Sheets / Excel, contracts and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) is a bonus
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently, and think strategically

What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to join Vay’s B2B and partnership team
- This role is designed to directly support the Director of Business Development in managing high-priority partnerships, commercial negotiations, and market expansion projects
- You will play a critical role in helping scale Vay’s partnerships with mobility platform companies, OEMs, technology partners and public sector stakeholders
- The ideal candidate is a strong project manager and communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, with the ability to perform partnership business modelling, qualify new engagements, and navigate the technical and regulatory constraints of a deep-tech product
- Partnership Development & Deal Execution:
- Own the early-stage partnership pipeline by qualifying inbound and outbound leads and prioritizing high-potential opportunities
- Support deal execution with high-profile partners by preparing and reviewing contracts, MoUs, and PoCs, working closely with Vay’s Engineering, Legal, and Finance teams
- Coordinate feasibility assessments with OEMs and align commercial proposals with technical requirements
- Commercial Strategy & Business Modeling:
- Build and maintain partnership business models to evaluate opportunities and support negotiations
- Conduct targeted market and competitor research to inform partnership strategies
- Contribute to city expansion projects by preparing documentation for tenders, permits, and proposals
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Alignment:
- Act as the interface between internal teams and external partners, ensuring smooth alignment and delivery of partnership projects while also tracking the partnership pipeline, following up on action items, and keeping BD, Legal, Finance, and Engineering aligned
- Prepare concise decks, redlines, and briefing notes to support partner negotiations and internal decision-making
- Governance & Confidentiality:
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive negotiations and regulatory matters
Our take
Driverless cars are often considered as the future of transport, but the AI-driven innovation is not yet powerful and safe enough to be made publically available. Furthermore, it is anticipated that many people would not trust AI-driven driverless cars regardless of their state of development, preferring to know that a human is behind the wheel.
Vay develops autonomous driving hardware powered by "teledriving", a system in which cars are driven remotely by humans. The German company will begin by providing orderable cars that can be driven manually by the customer but parked remotely by Vay staff, with future use cases including full remote rides, ride-sharing, last-mile delivery, and public transport.
Whilst other companies such as Mobileye have made plans to provide driverless cars to German cities, Vay is standing out with its unique focus on the trust of teledriving. Furthermore, the initial focus on autonomous parking will greatly speed up rollout and give the company a competitive edge. 2024 funding is being used to expand its development team and grow its European market.
