Who you are
- 10+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, ideally within the renewable energy or energy storage industries
- Extensive expertise in data modeling, ETL/ELT architecture, and data transformation techniques
- Masterful command of Python and SQL scripting
- Experience with SAP Datawarehouse Cloud a significant advantage
- Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable and performant data architectures
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, thriving in a dynamic team environment
- Demonstrated strategic problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a passion for turning data into actionable insights
- Solid understanding of code version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Independent work ethic with the ability to manage multiple priorities, multiple stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced environment

What the job involves
- We're looking for a passionate and experienced Principal Data Engineer to join our talented team and lead the charge in building a scalable, reliable, and future-proof data infrastructure that fuels our mission
- You'll own the technical design and development of data pipelines, mentor the team, and ensure data quality, while shaping the future of renewable energy through data-driven insights
- Champion the design and implementation of high-performance data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for our renewable energy assets and operations
- Architect and build secure and robust data platforms. Demonstrated experience with any cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with a preference for SAP Datawarehouse Cloud
- Craft and enforce dimensional models across the organization, ensuring data integrity and quality through cleansing, transformation, and validation
- Provides leadership, mentoring guidance to junior engineers, leading code reviews and fostering a collaborative data engineering culture
- Solves complex problems and bridges the gap between business needs and technical solutions, collaborating closely with stakeholders to translate data requirements into actionable insights
- Champion data governance practices, ensuring security and compliance across all data assets
- Monitor data pipelines proactively, identifying and troubleshooting issues to maintain optimal performance
- Proactively stays current on data engineering technologies and trends, constantly innovating and improving our data infrastructure

For a long time, efforts to decarbonize the global power grid have been hampered by a lack of effective large-scale battery-based energy storage. Fluence's dove-tailed approach - which pairs cutting-edge hardware with its own top-of-the-line operating system and AI - seeks to address this problem by allowing customers to deploy energy storage faster and more cost effectively.
The result of a union between independent American power producer AES and Siemens, Europe's biggest industrial manufacturer, Fluence entered the market in 2017 with a bang, and it now boasts the world's largest deployed fleet of energy storage projects. Having established its presence in battery storage, the company has increasingly been moving into digital energy asset optimisation, including of renewable energy sources.
