Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in software development for cloud infrastructure or related functions involving scoping, prioritizing and managing cloud architecture and engineering deliverables
- Strong proficiency software engineering fundamentals including clean and concise code, writing documentation, refactoring, test driven development. We deliver projects working in Python, TypeScript, Go, C#, and Java, so you should be comfortable with at least two of these and willing to learn others
- Deep familiarity with core web infrastructure, application modernization and software development best practices, Open Source technologies, cloud security, public and private cloud platforms
- Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure with Pulumi, Terraform, Cloudformation and/or similar technologies
- Strong proficiency in Azure, AWS or GCP services including compute, networking, storage, and security
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including cluster deployment, configuration, and management
- Experience with consulting and project delivery management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong team collaboration skills, problem solving skills, and critical thinking
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time to meet with customers, attend events, or support key initiatives as needed
What the job involves
- We are looking for a passionate Pulumi Cloud Architect to bring Pulumi’s cloud programming model to the world. You will be a part of realizing a vision where every developer can program the cloud
- As an early member of our Professional Services team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, customized solutions to our customers, leveraging the power of Pulumi alongside various cloud providers
- Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate closely with a strategic customer to understand their infrastructure needs, design tailored solutions, and implement them effectively using Pulumi's cutting-edge technology
- This is a customer-facing engineering role, where your contributions to customer engagements will quickly establish and underpin reference architectures and cloud best practices
- By leveraging Pulumi's infrastructure as code (IaC) approach, organizations can streamline the migration process, automate infrastructure provisioning, elevate security and achieve greater agility and scalability in the cloud
- You will help transform organizations with modern applications, data and AI powered capabilities
- Our Professional Services team is focused on helping our customers rapidly execute and optimize their usage of Pulumi across all of their cloud projects and teams
- Expect to be challenged, learn, teach, and collaborate with a world class team of great people
- Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, acumen and technical excellence as the lead Pulumi technical resource in complex cloud engineering projects with one of Pulumi’s largest and most strategic customers
- Engage with a strategic customer to understand their infrastructure requirements and business objectives
- Design, architect, and implement Pulumi-based solutions that meet customers’ specific needs and industry best practices
- Learn and be responsible for deliverables and reference architectures spanning programming languages, infrastructure providers, and open source and commercial cloud services
- Act as a trusted advisor and an extension of some of the most sophisticated cloud and platform engineering teams in the world
- Be a Subject Matter Expert in a specific domain related to DevSecOps, cloud providers, development best practices and/or solutions architecture
- Provide timely, responsive and collaborative engagement with your assigned accounts; coordinating with distributed teams to accomplish asynchronous objectives and tasks
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Pulumi implementations, AWS, Azure, or GCP services, and Kubernetes
Our take
The Infrastructure-as-code space is new and growing, thanks to the increasing complexity of cloud services, and their increasing adoption by developers and teams who would rather not manage them. Pulumi works to bring together infrastructure, developer, and security teams to help build and operate these cloud applications, better.
The service is compatible with all clouds and all major programming languages, meaning it’s casting its net appropriately wide to shore itself up against unpredictable new developments in the market. This breadth of scope saw Pulumi win 10x growth in adoption over 2019 alone, and the company has since expanded out into what it hopes will provide a more comprehensive cloud engineering platform. This means the addition of capabilities like governance and compliance features, testing support, and policy as code - all shoring up its already strong position in the space.
Also playing firmly in Pulumi’s favor is that it’s been built as cloud-native from the ground up, meaning that it has a head start on earlier infrastructure-as-code businesses that needed to pivot to accommodate new developments like serverless and multi-cloud tech. Plus, its multi-language compatibility means that silos don’t form so readily as they do with rival HashiCorp’s Terraform, which requires that developers learn a proprietary language.
