Who you are
- We seek individuals who have a combination of direct-to-consumer product expertise, data literacy, content development and a growth mindset
- We are seeking individuals with a mixed-methods background (comfortable with qualitative and quantitative methods) who will design and execute studies that address both user behavior and attitudes, using the right methodology for the right questions
- 8+ years' work experience as a UX researcher or research analyst
- D2C experience research touchpoints cross platform
- Experience working with cross functional teams in support of product development
- Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver complex messages to diverse audiences
- Proficient in MS Suite, usability study software, and/or statistical research software
- Mastery of Figma and prototyping
- Impeccable visual and interaction design skills
- Expertise in creating and modifying components and utilizing a mature design system kit
- Mastery of best UX design practices, including usability principles, user research methodologies and testing techniques
- Solid understanding of mobile and web technologies
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving aptitude and natural curiosity
- Experience working in digital news or a strong interest in news is preferred
- Extensive experience in program management tools such as Confluence and Jira
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
What the job involves
- CNN is looking for a Staff UX Researcher with our New Business team to help define the future vision of CNN’s new product initiatives, delivering insights to inform conversion, engagement and retention
- The ideal candidate is responsible for exploring insights about users through a variety of methodologies whether it be surveys, interviews, data analysis, usability studies, diary studies and ethnographic observation, or new methods
- UX Researchers own the research process from screening participants and defining test plans to analyzing data and synthesizing results in a fast-faced and collaborative environment
- Develop research plans in partnership with Product leads, Product Designers, and other stakeholders, choosing the methods (qualitative, quantitative, mixed) to best inform research needs
- Conduct research that drives product insights to inform decision making and prioritization of product features/enhancements that increase user engagement, conversion and retention
- Effectively communicate findings from variety of inputs including analytics, survey results, user behavior, and other data to craft actionable and unbiased recommendations
- Establish strong and productive relationships with product management and cross-functional teams to understand the needs of the business and use that knowledge to inform research strategy
- Collaborate cross-functionally around strategic initiatives to align resources and methodology with business needs
- Self-starter and able to manage projects and deadlines, whilst also being able to pivot as needed
- Adept at mentoring junior researchers

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is an entertainment company formed from the 2022 merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. It is a leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content, with Warner Bros alone boasting a huge library – more than 100,000 hours of programming – before the companies were joined. WBD’s portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Discovery+, HBO Max, and franchises like “Batman” and “Harry Potter”.
Both of the company’s previous businesses have operated throughout the digitisation of the media space. David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, headed Discovery during its expansion into digital media, to make it a “content company” over a “cable company”. The recent focus for Warner Bros has been on next-gen distribution efforts, expanding the availability of its content across platforms and devices to reach the modern viewer. The new company has plans to migrate to one tech stack, which will require extensive retooling, as well as exploring cost-saving automation opportunities for its operations.
Since the merger, the new giant that is Warner Bros Discovery has had a shaky start, forcing the company to wind down operations and cut back on content, which included the very public scrapping of the “Batgirl” movie. However, it now seems the company may have been ahead of the curve, as a wider trend of cutbacks has been seen from peers in the space. This early move, combined with a hyper-focus on cash generation, seeks to establish WBD as an outperformer in an industry on the downturn.
