Who you are
- Passion for working on deeply technical projects, distributed systems, concurrency & parallelism, and correctness
- Extensive experience designing and operating reliable large-scale systems in public clouds
- Experience in shaping, managing, and deploying workloads in Kubernetes
- Deep understanding of Go
- Expert knowledge of at least one: AWS, Azure, GCP including experience with IAC both system and network infrastructure
- Understanding of stream processing
- Experience and comfortable working with a 100% distributed engineering team, collaborating on GitHub, in the open and a self-starter
- Passion to grow a culture of written tradition
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Desirable
- Working knowledge of building Kubernetes operators for storage systems and stateful workloads
- Experience building a SaaS platform
- Operated and used streaming platforms either as a user or provider
What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced software engineer who is up for the challenge to not only architect and build the systems that deliver Redpanda as a world class cloud service, but also shape the technical culture that creates these systems
- In this role, you will design and develop our Redpanda Cloud services, including our Bring Your Own Cloud, Serverless, and Redpanda Connect products
- You will take a lead in defining system architecture, designing and developing new features, operating the Redpanda Cloud, and helping us meet our 99.99% SLA
- You will help raise the bar across the cloud engineering team
- You will collaborate closely across our Cloud, Core, and Platform engineering teams, as well as pre and post-sales support to build robust and scalable systems, with an emphasis on stability and safe upgrades with zero downtime
- Design, build and maintain our cloud services across AWS, GCP, and Azure, including control plane and data plane aspects
- Guide and evolve our system architecture in collaboration with other engineering leaders
- Identify and champion new features, process changes, and other strategic projects that improve our engineering culture and operational excellence
- Participate in an on-call escalation chain, help drive down problems that lead to on-call escalations, and help drive improving on-call quality of life
- Work with all the engineering teams on building new services to be deployed across all of our supported clouds
- Build tools & services to allow automated infrastructure provisioning and self-healing, including deployments and upgrades
- Make resilience and observability integral to the system, enabling us to run a managed, cloud-based streaming-as-a-service with >99.9% uptime
Our take
When dealing with real-time data streaming workloads, the simpler the infrastructure the better. RedPanda was developed as an alternative to the complex industry standard, Apache Kafka (which needed to be used in tandem with ZooKeeper). RedPanda’s Kafka-compatible platform increases businesses’ operational efficiency by allowing them to switch to a single platform.
Formerly known as Vectorized, the company launched the RedPanda in 2021, eventually renaming the company after the product. Its platform is already running on hundreds of thousands of machines, reliably enabling enterprises to continue to run the software that they’ve already invested in while addressing and eliminating past pain points with the status quo of data streaming infrastructures.
With funding under its belt, the company is expanding its marketing, research, and development, increasing its speed, reducing latencies, and adding features such as its RedPanda Cloud service. It is also focusing on limitless data retention, capturing the attention of developers, and resulting in the company’s substantial growth.
