Role
Who you are
- If you have a track record of exceeding sales quotas and share our passion for pets, this is the role for you!
- 3+ years of sales experience, with at least 1 year of field/outside sales experience
- A self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and proven success in launching new territories or working in low-structure, start-up environments
- Strategic and creative thinking to develop innovative sales approaches and step outside conventional methods
- Solid understanding of the products/services you’ve sold and expertise in concept selling, preferably in B2B or B2B2C roles
- Strong data analysis capabilities to examine past performance metrics and build effective sales plans for the territory
- A business-minded individual who takes ownership of their book of business, analyzes historical data, and forecasts future performance, actions and trends
- Expertise in fundamental sales skills such as route planning, overcoming objections, closing techniques, etc
- Ability to pass/obtain a Property & Casualty License within 30 days
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
What the job involves
- Pumpkin is looking for a highly motivated and results-driven Strategic Account Manager to join our team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role supporting our efforts in the veterinarian channel, expanding our customer base, and driving revenue growth
- With a focus on building strong client relationships and executing effective sales strategies, you will contribute to educating veterinary professionals on the value of pet insurance
- Actively pursue and close new business opportunities, aiming to achieve a quarter-over-quarter growth of +15%
- Assume ownership of a portfolio of 110-130 accounts, managing and nurturing these relationships to drive quote, policy and revenue growth
- Conduct an average of 12 product training sessions per quarter, providing educational and persuasive presentations to potential clients
- Develop and execute tailored sales strategies for each account, leveraging data analytics and insights to introduce our products effectively
- Establish a reputation as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in your field, fostering long-term client relationships
- Foster strategic partnerships and build a strong network to develop a robust pipeline of new business opportunities and create collaborative opportunities
- Utilize exceptional presentation skills, persuasive abilities, and a talent for driving behavior change in clients
- Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter attitude, taking ownership of your sales goals and initiatives
- This is a field based position requiring candidates to be full-time residents of New York City
Our take
While pet ownership & adoption rates are at an all-time high, 1 in 4 families are unable to provide the veterinary care they want for their pet due to financial barriers. In response Pumpkin created a more accessible type of pet insurance.
In particular, Pumpkin innovated with ‘Preventative Essentials’. It’s not insurance, but an optional benefit pet parents can easily add to their insurance plan to get refunds for crucial preventive care all pets need to stay healthy, from annual wellness visits to routine vaccines. Its product has proven popular, and Pumpkin insures over 60,000 pets in the USA and Canada.
Pumpkin was acquired by JAB's pet insurance platform in 2023. This move will boost the company's marketing reach and accelerate its research and development efforts. While it faces steep competition in the market, with the likes of AKC, Chewy and Figo offering similar insurance products, its up-to-date tech stack and the deep pockets of its parent company will ensure it maintains its strong position.
