Role
Who you are
- Clarasight is seeking a stellar person with exceptional data and engineering talent that is profoundly committed to reinventing how enterprises close the gap between climate-related intent and action through building the Carbon Planning and Analytics platform
- The right person for this role will be a highly, internally motivated, strong full-stack technical contributor with strong experience expertly balancing quality and time to market over short, medium, and long time horizons
- It is important that you work fluidly through the whole lifecycle of delivering value and delight to our customers, from pain to medicine
- How you prioritize and manage your focus is key. You have seen a wide range of problems and efficiently pattern match solutions, which you leverage to facilitate collaboration across both technical and non-technical audiences
- Most of all, you’re interested in using your software engineering capabilities to make a foundational contribution to reversing climate change
- 5+ years of software development experience in JavaScript web applications
- 12+ months experience leading a project, team, or initiative
- Expertise in React, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and SQL
- Experience with data intensive, asynchronous, distributed systems
- Experience going from 0 to 1
- Experience in global, enterprise SaaS development
- Experience with AWS: S3, RDS, EC2, IAM, Fargate, etc
- Experience with identity providers, ideally Auth0
- Experience working in an agile development environment using git and agile project management tools
- Experience building or using Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) systems
- Ability and willingness to learn other coding languages and patterns quickly
- Ability to define and uphold SLAs for operational processes you support
- Collaborate with other Software and QA Engineers, Data Scientists, Report Developers, Product Managers, and Customer Success Professionals
- Ability to debug hard problems at every level of the stack, i.e. you can debug a web application problem single-handedly all the way from the browser, through the transport, through the application and servers and databases and asynchronous queues
- You love data, analytics, database technology, and creating analytical systems
- You want to work at a startup on a remote, international team of A players
- You are exceptionally versatile and eager to pitch in any way you can without waiting to be asked
- You have developed a philosophy of engineering
- You have exceptional common sense and the ability to manage ambiguity
- You are an extremely curious, insatiable lifelong learner
- You love sharing knowledge and mentoring others and helping them grow

What the job involves
- Drive evolutions of our core web application
- Drive the development of core systems that power the platform's Planning, Scenario Modeling, and Analytics capabilities
- Drive the development of inter-system interoperability
- Execute the full software development lifecycle; technical analysis and design, development, and unit test phases
- Identify, deliver, and drive improvements and innovations within the software
- Work across the stack to successfully deliver value to customers
- Become a subject matter expert in travel and expense data and planning software systems
- Provide technical leadership and share knowledge, for instance, through code reviews, pairing, ADRs, and presentations
- The right candidate will feel comfortable suggesting the right technology stack for our required use cases, and you are encouraged to speak up where you see opportunities for further iteration
Our take
Corporations are steadily making greater efforts to address their carbon footprint, and investment into sustainability focused companies is reaching new heights. Indeed, investment into ESG funds doubled from 2021 to 2022, while global sustainable investment is up around 70% since 2014.
Clarasight (previously Climate Club) has entered the space with a platform that engages employees in carbon emissions reduction, or as the startup puts its, “embeds sustainability into the employee experience”, by helping track their emissions through business travel and remote work.
It’s a clever idea, and the company’s timing is excellent, especially considering that many polls now show that around 70% of employees want to work for sustainable companies, while it’s a deal breaker for around 25%.
Clarasight's emergence from stealth in 2022 was no quiet event either. CEO Adam Braun is a best-selling author and celebrated non-profit leader, while the company’s customer base already includes Meta, Lyft, and Bain & Company made sure of this. With three rounds of seed funding already behind it, Climate Club will continue to onboard big-name customers.
