Role
Who you are
- B.S. or higher degree in Automotive Engineering, Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- 2+ years of system test engineering experience in the automotive, robotics, or aerospace industry
- Analytical skills and hands-on experience
- Cross-disciplinary background and curiosity
- Ability to grapple with ambiguity and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience with requirement and test traceability tools such as Polarion, Jama, DOORS, or TestRails
Desirable
- Experience developing integration, test plans and procedures for safety critical robotic systems and/or autonomous vehicles
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C or C++
- Familiarity with AB Dynamics test equipment
- Experience with Linux Systems, OxTS
- Experience with test scripting and data analysis languages (Python and SQL preferred)
What the job involves
- As a Validation and Verification Systems engineer at Zoox, you will be owning a highly cross-functional role spanning across program management, legal, Software, and Operations organizations
- You will be part of a systems engineering organization that develops and deploys novel solutions to substantiate a safety case for autonomous driving
- Zoox is building a purpose-built robotaxi
- Your real-world and virtual tests will capture the full end-to-end performance, from the advanced AI systems through the custom vehicle platform
- You will be leading the creation of cutting-edge V&V methodologies, developing processes, writing comprehensive validation plans, executing tests and simulations, and preparing reports needed to ensure the safety of the Autonomous software

- Establish strategies and methodologies to Verify and Validate the Software stack with robust test coverage
- Work cross-functionally to develop detailed Simulation and Structured test plans and procedures to validate Autonomous features
- Execute the technical and logistical planning of vehicle tests including cross-functional coordination with other teams: vehicle engineering, operations, software, and sensors
- Design efficient test programs to achieve test coverage of requirements and scenarios, drawing on simulation, and analysis where possible
- Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and results
- Design, develop, and operate test equipment and instrumentation systems
- Troubleshoot and debug issues in the field, and trace failures to correct subsystems
- Perform test data analysis and report test results. Define and develop automated data extraction tools to streamline analysis and reporting
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
