Role
Who you are
- Degree in Accounting (CPA a plus, not required)
- 3+ years of working with tech companies or in public or private accounting
- A strong knowledge of US GAAP; conceptual and practical experience in researching, understanding and communicating technical accounting issues and recommendations
- Experience with technology, use of AI, and building automation into Accounting
- Experience using NetSuite, Bill.com, Expensify, FloQast, similar accounting software
- A self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and proactively drive business results
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and high degree of analytical and problem-solving skills
- You are organized and execution focused, with an ability to work independently
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team to help fulfill Skylo’s mission of making satellite connectivity available to all.
- Our team builds scalable processes to support Skylo’s financial reporting and compliance needs. You will be a critical member of the Controllership team reporting to the controller, helping build and operate a world class month-end close process with the Accounting Manager
- You'll design and implement scalable corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with US GAAP and other laws/regulations
- You'll work closely with various stakeholders within Finance and across the company to identify problems, process gaps and propose reasonable and creative solutions to improve processes including opportunities for automating manual processes or activities within a process
- You’ll design and develop plans for automation of accounting business processes to save time, increase efficiency, and drive growth
- You'll own parts of the month-end close including month-end journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules (cash, accounts payables, accounts receivable, fixed assets, allocations, expense reporting, and others)
- You'll contribute to the financial audit process in preparation and providing of various audit requests and inquiries
- You'll complete monthly variance analysis through understanding the financial data within the greater context of the business
- You'll work closely with the Accounting Manager in general corporate accounting matters and ad hoc projects or requests
Our take
Skylo connects Internet of Things (IoT) devices to satellite networks using the cellular-based Narrowband IoT protocol. It is considered one of the world’s most affordable and ubiquitous networks that connects any machine or sensor.
The company stands out for being the first to leverage the aforementioned protocol, which allows its customers to instantaneously connect billions of devices in remote areas, without having to wait for any new satellites to launch. Having tested its technology with government and enterprise clients, the company then invested funding into scaling service in emerging markets, starting with India and Southeast Asia.
More recently, Skylo has focussed on forming partnerships, such as with IoT firm FocusPoint and telecommunications equipment company Anritsu Corporation, through which it has helped delivered IoT monitoring and emergency escalation services and enhanced Non-Terrestrial Network device testing. It has also launched SMS texting capabilities on its live satellite network, with plans to roll out two-way voice calls and images in the near future.
