Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of brand design experience, ideally with a mix of in-house and agency work, and a portfolio that demonstrates range, craft, and strategic thinking
- Strong visual design fundamentals: typography, layout, color theory, illustration, and motion, with an eye for detail and a bias toward clarity
- Systems thinking: you don't just design one offs, you build frameworks that others can use and adapt
- Comfort with ambiguity: you're energized by blank canvases, not paralyzed by them
- A storyteller at heart, able to translate abstract ideas into compelling visual narrativesHands on execution skills: you can art direct and delegate, but you're also willing to roll up your sleeves and execute when needed
- Collaborative instincts: you work well with non-designers, take feedback gracefully, and know when to push back with conviction
- An understanding of how brand and product intersect, and how to make them feel like one unified experience
- Bonus: experience designing for small business, hospitality, or mission driven brands; familiarity with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and AI design tools

- Owner builds software that helps independent restaurants stay independent. We give owners the tools to run their business, build real relationships with their customers, and grow on their own terms
- Design plays a central role in making that work, and now, we're ready to build a brand that reflects it
- We're at an inflection point. Owner has a strong product foundation, a clear mission, and thousands of restaurant owners relying on us every day
- What we need now is a brand expression that matches the ambition of what we're building, one that feels distinctive, credible, and deeply connected to the people we serve
- You'll be a founding Brand Designer, responsible for establishing how Owner shows up in the world
- That means defining and evolving our visual language, shaping our voice and tone, and building a system that can scale across product marketing, campaigns, partnerships, internal culture and beyond
- You'll work closely with leadership, product, and marketing teams to make sure every touchpoint, from our website to our booth at a trade show to the shirt on an employee's back, feels unmistakably Owner
- Evolve Owner's brand identity across the board: visual systems, typography, color, illustration style, photography direction, physical products, and tone of voice
- Create brand guidelines and systems that empower the team and our partners to execute consistently across channels without bottlenecking on you
- Design for impact across the customer journey, from awareness and acquisition to retention and advocacy: landing pages, campaigns, event materials, sales decks, swag, and more
- Build our internal brand presence, designing employee merchandise, office materials, and team swag that people actually want to wear and use
- Collaborate cross functionally with product design, marketing, sales, and leadership to ensure brand and product feel like one cohesive experience
- Bring ideas to life quickly, whether that's a pitch deck for a partnership, a booth design for a restaurant trade show, or a brand refresh for a product launch
- Stay connected to our customers, independent restaurant owners, and ensure the brand reflects their reality, not a sanitized version of it

Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 10,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2025 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
