Senior Director of Data Science, BigHat Biosciences

• PhD in a relevant domain [Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, or similar] with 10+ years of industry experience preferred
• Proven record of growing teams and individuals in a fast-paced startup environment
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively about data problems with diverse audiences (e.g wet lab, engineering, product, drug development) and translate team needs into data science solutions
• Experience and a methodological, practical mindset for applying a broad set of statistical and computational methods to real world biological problems
• Deep experience working with diverse experimental data sets, ideally focused on protein or antibody design problems
• Passionate about building robust, scalable data products for scientific teams

• BigHat Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, people-focused technical leader to scale BigHat’s Data Science team, capabilities, and impact
• This role will grow a talented team of data scientists and set an ambitious technical roadmap in the mission of advancing BigHat’s state-of-the-art antibody engineering platform and therapeutic programs
• Setting and executing a vision for how Data Science can advance BigHat’s mission and operations in our next stage of company growth including developing a roadmap for the data processes, systems, tools and capabilities that serve the Science organization
• Deeply understanding the needs of Platform and Programs teams in order to architect and prioritize Data Science activities company-wide for a fast growing team
• Architecting a data product ecosystem that accelerates therapeutic programs with insights derived from data ranging from immune repertoires to phage display to ML-designed sequence properties and corresponding experimental measurements
• Growing a high performance team that services the entire organization including platform, protein sciences, machine learning, target discovery, and therapeutic programs emphasizing individual development of talented team members
• Owning the entire data science life cycle at BigHat from experimental design through data analysis and modeling
• Proactively identify areas where data science activities could accelerate BigHat’s mission and organizational effectiveness
• Conceptualize and own robust and reliable data products (dataset, metadata, models, and visualizations) to advance the efficiency and effectiveness of our platform, including measuring data quality to modeling antibody function to automating variant design strategies
• Collaborating closely with BigHat protein scientists, program leads, software engineers, ML scientists, and other team members to enable rapid, iterative development of data products across our platform
• This role reports directly to the CSO and has broad responsibilities across BigHat for an ambitious technical roadmap in Data Science in collaboration with other areas of the company and for thoughtful development of a talented, growing team of data scientists
