Company mission

To create the most committed, close, and engaged athlete community on the internet.

Role

Who you are

  • You enjoy working in a dedicated and fast-paced working environment. We pride ourselves on trying things quickly, learning and iterating, and then either pivoting or scaling. You’ll excel by constantly assessing your opportunities and prioritizing for impact
  • You are comfortable asking questions to bring clarity and momentum to broad and ambiguous challenges
  • You enjoy both the art and science of Marketing — you're just as comfortable making messaging and design suggestions as you are analyzing a spreadsheet and quantifying results
  • You are constantly curious: you have a deep curiosity about human behavior and approach decision-making with a scientific mentality, always seeking ways to make even minor adjustments
  • You have a data-driven, product approach: you take on complex problems with systems thinking, you love automating manual processes, and can communicate your ideas with structured thinking
  • 2+ years of experience in lifecycle marketing, email marketing, or CRM
  • A growth mindset and see challenges as opportunities to grow rather than obstacles to overcome
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills - Ability to effectively link between teammates and cross-functional partners across the organization
  • Experience with A/B testing, experimentation tools (such as Eppo) and reading reporting tools (such as Tableau)
  • Experience working in marketing automation tools (such as Iterable)

What the job involves

  • We’re looking for an experienced Retention Marketer to join our Growth team to own activating, engaging, and retaining our diverse user base
  • You'll achieve this by crafting personalized campaigns, translating data and user research to improve the user experience
  • You'll collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Design teams to develop, test, and expand a range of experiments, focusing on learning, iterating, and delivering quickly
  • You play an important role advocating for our users and provide insights on their response to various messaging and tactics, fostering feedback loops within the company
  • Drive user love and business impact: You’ll be responsible for crafting delightful user experiences and driving business growth by improving user activation, conversion, and retention
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: As a data-driven growth marketer, you excel at working closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Marketing teams to improve email, push and in-app touch points for incremental impact and insights
  • Build and launch personalized campaigns: One size fits all does not work for Strava’s diverse user base. You’ll be tasked with understanding top user segments and use cases, delivering focused messaging to the right user at the right time
  • Consistently measure and report performance & takeaways: We run fast-paced, impactful campaigns to optimize for takeaways. You’ll rigorously A/B test and implement a takeaway agenda that improves metrics across the funnel
  • Empower others: Through clear documentation, playbooking, and socialization you will help others achieve their goals, amplify your impact, and reinforce your subject matter expertise

Our take

Strava has created an online network where runners, swimmers and cyclists can record fitness activities, and compare and compete with their community. It offers both a free and premium subscription service with added features. The company also partners with local councils and urban planners who purchase valuable journey data from Strava which can be used to map out cities and develop safer cycle paths.

The platform helps members discover and plan workouts, as well as offering a leaderboard which is updated using GPS as users compete for the top spot on particular fitness segments.

With over 125 million athletes and growing, Strava released several new product rollouts in 2024, including an AI-enabled leaderboard. A partnership with the wearable fitness tracker Oura will mean Strava software is available on wearables, taking Strava into fresh competition with the likes of Peloton and Apple.
