7shifts is building technology products to upgrade a famously antiquated consumer business - the restaurant. Specifically, the company is helping restaurant managers handle how they schedule their often flexibility-seeking employees.
The company attributes its success to a combination of customer-obsession led product development, and their narrow focus on restaurants. Other workplace scheduling softwares exist and have success, but few are as narrowly focused on the restaurant industry as 7Shifts.
The company is now looking to help restaurants deal with what some analysts are calling ‘The Great Resignation’. To do this, they are rolling out a new hiring product that helps managers hire, track and retain employees all in one place.
The worry for 7shifts is that by developing more products focused on just this relatively narrow customer base, they may be capping their potential. However, the 7shifts leadership believes that there is real room to grow through a more generalised SaaS product for restaurants. 7shifts has also benefitted from more than $130 million in funding, which indicates that investors believe in its continued success.
