Move is a programming language tailored specifically for blockchain applications. It was originally created at Facebook, but the cryptocurrency it was supposed to power never launched. Now, Movement Labs hopes to share Move with as many people as possible, and facilitate its use across all distributed environments.
The company's first project, which is supported by a significant funding round, is to bring Facebook’s Move Virtual Machine to Ethereum. Through this, Movement Labs hopes to combat prevalent issues with Ethereum, such as smart contract vulnerabilities and poor transaction throughput.
It's an interesting premise, and one which many blockchain enthusiasts and developers will be interested in. Investment in the company is a promising sign, as are its plans for the future which include the introduction of Move Stack, an execution layer framework that is compatible with frameworks from companies like Optimism, Polygon and Arbitrum.
