Who you are
- You have experience building beautiful and scalable Apps and are excited about using best-in-class frameworks, techniques and keeping pace with the newest technologies as they emerge
- You have experience working in dynamic, fast-paced agile environments where you delivered features and updates for apps serving a large user base. You are adept at balancing the need for rapid delivery with maintaining high standards of quality and reliability
- You’re excited about what we’re doing! We’re a technology company working in a very traditional industry and that gives us a huge opportunity to build something truly different
- We’re still a small team, so you’ll be involved in everything and are excited to learn about all aspects of our stack, our product and our existing team
- You care about the users we are creating products for, are happy to speak to them directly, and love turning designs into beautiful products
- You are comfortable in the face of ambiguity and are happy to take on problems without a clear definition or solution
- You are comfortable putting something out there when it’s not-perfectly-polished to gather feedback, whether that’s an MVP of a feature, a draft of a proposal, or your thoughts on a design
- You care about the team and culture we are building, and understand the importance of giving feedback and supporting others around you
What the job involves
- We’re looking for an experienced Android Developer to join our mobile team and contribute to the development of our native app in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for our Android customers
- You'll be pragmatic, have a great product-mindset while keeping our users at the heart of how you think, and have a passion for excellent UI and UX
- This is a unique opportunity to make significant contributions to an App that is less than a year old, using the latest and greatest Android features and frameworks, and push it to our growing base of thousands of customers
- Collaborate with other developers and members of the product team to scope out features and user experience journeys, and to build them in 100% full fat native Kotlin code
- Work within our coding sprints to bring those features to life and deploy them fast for real world users and to gather feedback in order to continually improve
- Share your passion for best in class mobile App design and best practice and continually polish your craft by keeping up-to-date with the latest frameworks and tools
- Collaborate with other engineers and designers to build our design system and component library for scale
- Improve the performance and accessibility of our apps
- We use Typescript for the majority of our backend work, and follow industry best practices to guide our software development lifecycle. On occasion we break out Python for quick scripting tasks, and utilise other tools in our toolbox to get the job done

Our take
Honest Mobile was launched in response to seeing a gap in the modern market for mobiles. Mobile networks were lagging behind, set in their old ways with complicated contracts, overcharging, and keeping customers on hold -being the norm.
To challenge this, the company built Honest Mobile from the ground up to create a better mobile network for customers and the planet. With £150k in funding, Honest Mobile has created the first carbon-neutral mobile network where customers can float between networks. It's a registered B-Corporation and plants trees on behalf of its customers.
The mobile industry has many established players who have already spent time dealing with the challenges that Honest Mobile currently faces, like price competitiveness, WiFi functionality, and rural coverage. However, by aiming to capitalise on the consumer trend of eco-consciousness, which many of the existing companies in this space neglect, Honest Mobile aims to grow its customer base. Its recent performance on Seedrs, an equity crowdfunding platform for startups where it raised more than £3 million in an oversubscribed campaign, shows that it is clearly gaining traction in the market.
With sustainability at the core of its mission, the company has released the UK's first recycled SIMs – made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. Honest Mobile's next step? Getting get rid of SIMs altogether!
