Furniture is typically expensive because of the overhead of warehouses and retail shops. There have been a number of retailers who spotted the opportunity to deliver furniture directly from the suppliers to customers.
Swoon's focus is on distinctive design at an accessible price, and it competes against Made.com. Swoon has partnered with Debenhams in London's Westfield shopping centres, as well as a 2023 partnership with M&S to showcase some of its ranges, whereas Made.com has launched its own display store in London.
Swoon is using real-time sales data in a smart way: it tests demand quickly and then scales production on only the most popular pieces.
