Role
Who you are
- Experience building things with ML and tinkering with models. Examples might include search engines, recommender systems, RAG systems, agents, computer vision systems, and so on
- Some candidates will have more full-stack development experience, others will have more ML experience
What the job involves
- We are seeking a talented Agent Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing and improving Proxy, our generalist agent. Your goal will be to make Proxy highly capable at solving real-world problems for users, while also building out the right tooling for testing new ideas and measuring performance
- Experimenting with different agentic setups, such as web-browsing agents
- Designing and improving the set of actions and tools agents have at their arsenal — like querying the web and checking their work
- Utilising methods such as prompt engineering, tool-use, and image processing
- Contributing to the overall architecture and design, ensuring scalability and performance
- Making it easy to test ideas, analyse trajectories and visualise agent behaviours
- Designing new tasks to push the boundaries of our agents and creating evaluations to measure the progress weʼre making

General agents are not a novel concept, but Convergence’s focus on general aid rather than tailored software for specific markets acts as a broad market calling card. Indeed, product flexibility is at the core of Convergence’s AI models, encouraging its customers to decide what its models are suited to within the context of their own business. The idea is that the customers adapt the AI agent to a number of skills in a similar way to which humans learn. Convergence calls this a theoretical “long-term memory” for AI, elevating the general models' flexibility to various automated jobs.
£12 million in seed funding from the founders' former employees Shopify alongside a pitch in from Salesforce is a springboard for the young company. It also goes some way to indicate the kinds of companies (fintech and eCommerce) that Convergence will attract as customers in the future for its adaptable, general agents.
