Our take

RocketReach is one of the world’s most popular professional email, phone and social media directories. Its tech scrapes data from public sources – company websites, phone directories, and social and professional networking sites – to compile contact information for hundreds of millions of professionals around the world.

The appeal of a database like RocketReach is powerful. Paying subscribers can access direct contact information for just about any professional to generate leads, boost sales, refine marketing efforts, and aid recruitment.

Since launching in 2015, the company has grown to have well above 16 million users, with many of the world’s biggest companies – Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft – amongst its business customers.

There have been some complaints and column inches, and indeed at least one class action lawsuit, surrounding how RocketReach harvests and sells personal data without direct consent. However, provided it operates within international data regulations, the company's service remains extremely popular with its customers and should continue to grow.
