Our take
Whilst software engineering should be efficient and secure, most of the time it is not. Developers generally struggle with larger codebases, cluttered dependencies, security policies and unnecessary friction in their workflows.
Founded in 2020, Gitpod is setting out to change this by automating the provisioning of ready-to-code, secure and collaborative workspaces. The company's product seems to have already made an impact in the space, attracting a user base of 750k+ developers who are part of impressive companies, including Google, Amazon, and GitLab.
Having gained traction and set within a fast growing market, Gitpod have attracted serious funding. They will be using this capital to accelerate innovation for its open platform, including creating a new category: Cloud Development Environments (CDEs).
